When you think about it, deep down Roman Abramovich is a total cunt of a man!

He's going to have to be a very strong character to deal with the likes of Terry, Drogba, Malouda and Lampard who he is basically the same age as.

Just think, if Abramovich had stuck with one of the other managers long enough they probably would have won the CL already

2008 and perhaps 2009 were the realistic years Chelsea had of winning the CL. If they had Mourinho for the 2008 final, they'd have won it in normal time while in 2009 they were fucked over by the ref. They had the right set of players during both years..the side is different now, the likes of Ballack have left. Can't see them having a realistic shot at it in the near future, with their core group of players getting older and more injury-prone..unless Abramovich is prepared to spunk out cash and back Villas-Boas, will they get the balance right?

Something tells me for the foreseeable future anyway, probably not.

^^Ballack leaving gives them the best possible chance of winning a final actually.

I reckon they would have won it if they'd kept Mourinho, that game was incredibly tight, any little thing could have made the difference - he's certainly a better manager than Grant and his record against Ferguson is exceptional. Sacking Mourinho in the early part of that season was one of the worst decisions ever made by an owner.

I'd like to see him getting sacked sooner rather than latter, but I'm afraid he's good enough for the job. I also think they may not be so quick to dismiss him as they have been with other coaches, they invested an unlikely amount on him.

Nani welcomes Villas-Boas

Chelsea are again expected to be one of United's greatest rivals and their challenge will be led by new manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The Portuguese tactician has been hugely successful in his homeland with Porto, but compatriot Nani does not think he will get the better of United.

"I hope you have success and demonstrate the qualities you showed with FC Porto" said Nani. "But that is not enough to win against Manchester United."

It's quite clever though, as this way we don't need separate threads for when he's fired and when his balls drop.

What does Abramovich want more these days ? The CL or the PL
AVB seems like a nice guy tbh but too nice to be a coach at this level ?

He already is a good manager but I feel he has moved to Chelsea or the EPL too early in his career. A couple of seasons in the Champions League with Porto would have been a good test for his credentials.

He needs to drop Lampard and boot out Terry. Then with the 000s of millions he'll do alright obviously

I think he will want the CL more, but realize that it's not a realistic target, at all.

I think he does have it in him to coach at this level, but I do agree he should have put himself out there before taking on a club like Chelsea. I think he's more than good enough to manage a club like this, but maybe not their expectations, well, Ambramovich's actually. He'll need time there I feel, and that's something that isn't really spared over there.

It's still mental he got rid of Ancelotti in the first place.
