Arsenal's French-speaking dressing room leaves Theo Walcott lost in translation

The Arsenal youngster has been able to indulge in dressing room banter in the build up to England’s 2010 World Cup qualifiers safe in the knowledge his comments will not have been lost in translation.

That is of stark comparison to life inside the corridors at the Emirates where French is the mother tongue, something which has allowed summer arrival Samir Nasri to settle into his new surroundings with ease.

“Everybody speaks French, with the Swiss players, the Africans, the French lads and Arsene Wenger all in there,” Nasri, who joined Arsenal in a £12m move from Marseille said.

Walcott is one of a handful of British players in Wenger's squad and Nasri added: “It is not easy to speak English in the Arsenal dressing room.

“The boss talks in French when he has discussions with players and only speaks English in team meetings.

“I do not feel that I am in a foreign country with all the French speakers around I am not in unknown territory. I have settled in very well.”

Arsenal fans can well agree. The 21-year-old has got his new career in England off to a flying start with goals in successive home games against West Brom on the opening day of the season and in the Champions League qualifying second leg against Steve McClaren’s FC Twente.

Even the British weather which has seen many a foreign player bemoan life in England - most recently Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic - is not threatening to dampen the Frenchmen’s spirit.

“English people don’t invade my privacy. If they see me in the street, they’ll just make a small sign of recognition.

“The weather in London is pleasant, even though you don’t get the same sunshine they have in Marseille.”

Lyon could do with a bit of competition over in France, so why not make the move? At least they might win a trophy again over there.

Sometimes you almost can't blame Ashley Cole for wanting to fuck off.

And back then it probably only held off for a few hours

The Arsenal dressing room just sounds like a joke, the number of cocks in there, and now we learn they all speak French. I feel a bit sorry for Walcott, he's like a foreigner in his own land. A foreigner surrounded by cocks
