His rubbish obviously influenced the ref into sending Pepe off, otherwise it would have been a definite yellow.

Loving that Real video. Wish we had something as partisan as that on our website.

It's clear as day this face-clutching is a taught tactic.

Correct.

Here's another "tackle" with no contact that should have been a red (but wasn't)

Mind you, that doesn't mean it's not a red card.

One thing that video does do is make the challenge look worse than I first thought. If Alves didn't pull out the way he did it could have been a nasty injury. Studs showing, leg locked straight, coming in over the top of the ball. Not nice at all. Even the expression on his face is incriminating. Definite yellow card, red just about deserved.
True but equally Barca should have been down to about 9 men for the amount of simulation they indulged in.

He gave in eventually to Barca's antics

Was it alves who made that loud scream when Pepe caught him?

That influenced the Ref greatly but with those sort of challenges it's always tricky in Europe.

I think it would've been a yellow in England.

If that was true, why didn't he send anyone off when Pedro and Busquets were rolling round the place holding their faces?

For all the antics of both sides, I think the ref got most of the big decisions right last night.

Nah, the video is on the link I posted if you want to view it mate.

Mockers just posted that 'my face hurts' one on twitter though, it's cringe inducing.

True enough, I still reckon it was harsh though, I'd say worthy of a yellow but not a red for me.

I'd love to have seen him book Arbeloa for the shoulder charge and Pedro for pretending he was hit in the face when the contact was obviously in his chest. That would have been a great bit of refereeing.

And it got completely overshadowed by the penalty worth five goals.

Uefa case against Barcelona relates to sub keeper Pinto's red card. Case against Real includes Pepe red, Mourinho dismissal, Mourinho comments, throwing of missiles and a pitch invasion

Quite amusing that Madrid seem to have more to answer for, cnuts though they are.

I meant him getting on the stretcher. I think you explained that already, something about imagining pain.

The red card was out long before the stretcher arrived.

I think they should send a team of expert physicians to Barca to complete full body scans, it seems a lot of their players have nerve endings that all create pain in their face, could be a serious issue.

The funny thing is, I can see the Pinto card getting rescinded. Looking at the video on the Madrid website it was Arbeloa that pushed him, rather than the other way round.

Be hilarious if that happened. Jose's head would explode.

Pinto slapped him though, didn't he? That's what they said last night.

Just remembered as well, didn't Puyol throw the corner flag into the crowd?

Did he? A massive banfest would be brilliant. Unlikely though.

How else were they supposed against Barca other than sit back and wait/hope for some counter attacking opportunities ? They tried the attacking way and were destroyed in the 5-0 defeat and then they tried another approach which worked for them.
Parking the bus against Barca and hitting them on the counter is still the best way to defeat them whether it's in the league, in a final or in a double confrontation (like Chelsea almost did for instance).

Chelsea were very attacking in their home leg, from memory. It was only when they sat back and tried to protect the scoreline that Barca got on top and eventually scored.

Wow he didn't even catch his leg? I know it's going to happen, where nothing will happen to Barca ever for their behaviour but, my godness how I hope I am wrong.

Surely UEFA for the next game and in the final will have enough backbone to send in referees with instructions to book the Barca players for play acting and not let them fall for their antics. One can argue if their tiki taka play is beautiful or not - no one can argue their play acting to get players sent off is nothing short of despicable.

We parked the bus against Barca back then when they're not even this good. And we have the best backfour in Europe at the time. Madrid tactics are fine and perfectly understandable. Yes, even with the most expensive team assembled. They're not as good a team as Barca yet.

They were attacking in counter attacks but were not committing a lot of players forward like they usually do.
At 11 vs 10 they still parked the bus

There is no benefit to be given, tv replays clearly show that he wasn't even touched... quite how a player can "think" he's hurt himself without being touched is a bit of a mystery to me.

Bunch of twats the lot of them, a true "Victory for football" will be United winning the CL.

The game is going mental, video technology is vital to stomp out not only goal-line decisions but this nonsense and diving. If anything Alves should have been punished for awful diving while Pepe should have received a ticking off for potential dangerous play.

Both correct.
What this Pinto lad is all about is strange to say the least. For such a needless guy he is giving himself airs bigtime.
