I'd hazard a guess that we might have a limited transfer budget and Rafa would like to put some money toward other singings. I know, I know, you lot think it's all a big sob story and we're just making it up in order to get a few million quid shaved off every signing, but chances are if Rafa had £18m to spare for a player he clearly wants quite badly, he'd just spend it.

i agree completely. & Capello thinks he's not bad either. Barry offers more going forward to Liverpool, has looked good with England playing with Gerrard. If you're liverpool manager, that's nice to know.

true, alonso may be "better" but he's a clone of mascherano and that young brazilian kid. they need something different and Barry will provide assists and goals, Alonso won't

Yep, haven't you seen how Alonso runs around like a maniac tackling and fouling people, and play square 5 yard balls sideways whenever he gets the ball?

Well actually, if YOU want to be pedantic - no it isn't...

The relevant figures are:

Utd 25m

Poo 18m

When working out how large a % 'more' than Poo we have spent, that is a calculation based on Poo's figure being 100%.

eg.

'twice as much as P' = '100% more than P' = total spend of 36m, 18m more

'half as much again as P' = '50% more than P' = total spend of 27m, 9m more.

So when we calculate how much more than Poo we actually spent (as a percentage) we get:

(25 - 18) x 100 / 18 = 700 / 18 = 38.889 (to 3 dec places)

That's just under 39%, not 28%.

What you seem to have calculated (given your inability to use these numerical concepts it's difficult to be certain) - is how much less than Utd Poo have spent - as a % of Utd's spend...

(25-18) x 100 / 25 = 700 /25 = 28

Unfortunately, as the calculations show, these concepts are rather different.

I think you failed this exam question quite spectacularly!

He's obviously not got 18m spare if he's going to still go out and buy another half dozen players this summer.

Woe is you.

Can't believe you've gone to so much trouble just to prove United were even shittier than I'd calculated.

Only on the Caf.

You're judging Rafa's actions on those of your own manager in the transfer market. Do you really think if money was no object, he'd be arsed about squabbling over a couple of million pounds ?.

I'm surprised you even asked the question, let alone expected a response.

It is impressive that you're still alive really. It is so easy to just slip away...
Seems that way now doesn't it ?. However, after finishing 13th in the table after three and a half years in charge, an awful lot of your fans were questioning the 'sanity' of the United board for keeping Fergie on. So much so, a banner was unfurled at OT with the words : '3 years of excuses, & still crap. Ta-ra Fergie'. I suspect the sight of the FA Cup in the trophy room probably bought him a little more time.

I can understand why my harping back to the dark old days upsets you & the other 'Premiership pups', because it tarnishes Fergie's god-like, can-do-no-wrong image. But when someone suggests that we'd have a 'Rafa out banner' displayed at Anfield, I feel it would have been rude of me not to remind you guys of the time there was an anti-Fergie brigade amongst your own supporters.

Is there something magic about that 18 year period?

The two club has spent more or less the same amount of money from 1990 until today.

Liverpool: £352 147 000
United: £346 390 000
