Whatever happens in 2 weeks, they will still be in europe. Whether that's the Champions League or the Europa League, who knows? Same as us really.

If they fail to make the champions league then they will be in the europa league which can still be tricky and it plays chaos with your fixtures.

Its what us reds want tbh.

That's a myth, I think. Pretty much all of their first team have come from clubs that have played in the Champions League regularly, they're used to it.

Europa League fucks you up more than CL. Those nasty Thursday nights.

And why does no-one think about the seeding. If City don't qualify it'll hold back their seeding for another year, giving them more chance of getting another tricky group next season.

The whole "I want City to qualify" shit baffles me, posters aren't thinking it through.

In any case I reckon the dent in confidence from discovering that everything they touch doesn't necessarily turn to gold would offset any benefit from the first team not playing during the week a maximum of 6 times over 4 months. As well of course as having to travel for the Europa League games.

I'd love a bit of Thursday night, channel 5 for City.
One less recovery day for the weekend

I just hope we don't end up there with them!

Basel need a win. A draw will suffice for us. I think that will suit our style of play.

Just wonder if Bayern will take the chance to knock them out or just send out a second string team given they have already won the group. Napoli winning in Villareal is not a done deal.

Bayern have been pretty vocal in their contempt for Shitty, so hopefully they will go all out to destroy them.

I have always told my City pals that they need to be through before they meet Bayern at home, as whatever personnel Bayern put out at the Eti-Shed , I expect that Bayern will get a point at least.

I think City going out will be a confidence knocker, so all good news for me

It was.

Quote:
Bayern Munich's Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hit out at clubs who he believes are not shaping up to adhere to Uefa’s forthcoming Financial Fair Play rules, stating that those like Champions League rivals Manchester City are climbing the ladder thanks to wealth alone.

The German league has been seen as one of the most financially responsible in recent seasons, and the Bavarians' chairman is happy that Uefa president Michel Platini is implementing rules to try and make the playing field more level, insisting that the game is currently unfair.

Rummenigge, whose team face Manchester City on Tuesday, told DRadio: “In the words Financial Fair Play really lies the truth. It seems obvious at the moment that there is financial unfair play. And it is quite clear: we have a world in which the Arabs, Russians and Italians play a dramatic role.

“Because of their wealth they can make transfers and accordingly can improve the quality of their teams, and I think that cannot be the way of the future.”

He also commented on the false economy of splashing millions on Europe’s elite in order to make a profit in the future.

“When a Manchester City, Chelsea or Inter or Milan can make large transfers, the princely sums they pay suggest that at the end of the day they are on par with the second division in Germany,” he said.

“Everything is so expensive: the transfer fees, salaries, and all. And that led to Uefa finding that over 60% of all professional clubs in Europe are taking financial losses”

He also suggested that he had doubts over how these clubs would meet the rules put in place by Uefa, stating: “The sheikhs who own these clubs have promised Michel Platini that they will ensure that the rules are adhered to. We are now - it has to be said perhaps even more - in a test phase. In this test phase, the clubs must change.

“Especially the clubs that have recorded very high losses every year. And there are candidates that give the impression that they are ready.

“Inter, for example. Milan are also holding back very much in terms of spending money. Accordingly, I can imagine, they are well on their way to meeting these criteria. For other clubs I don't have as much faith.”
Bayern Munich's Karl-Heinz Rummenigge blasts free-spending clubs ahead of Manchester City clash - Goal.com

Quote:
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that Manchester City will face many difficulties when the Financial Fair Play takes effect from next season. He insisted that the cash rich club has been spending heavily in the transfer market and the high losses could even deprive them of Champions League football.

Bayern Munich have openly showed their interest in signing Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng this summer but the English club’s high valuation for the player has been an obstacle in the transfer. The former Hamburg player has also expressed his desire to leave England but the club’s 20 million Euro price tag is too much.

Rummenigge claimed that City could face the wrath of UEFA next season as they have 48 contracted players where the number has to be 25. He also insisted that the Abu Dhabi United Group owned club has heavy losses of around 143 million Euros which could keep them out of next year’s Champions League, given they qualify.

“I think they are going to have 48 players under contract, but according to Financial Fair Play they can have only 25. And according to their last balance sheet, if I'm correct, they are minus €143m. Maybe they still have a trick up their sleeves but I'm not sure that they will be permitted to play in the Champions League,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

The Chairman also admitted that Bayern will not pay astronomical prices for a player as City have done in the past. He added that the Bavarian giants have quoted the best possible price and also criticised Manchester City officials for dragging the transfer.

“We do not play Manchester City rates. The club apparently always adds a bonus on top of the price because they have an owner with no financial worries. But we certainly will not pay astronomical prices,” the chief concluded.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: Manchester City will face difficulties when Financial Fair Play takes effect | bettor.com

Finally:

Quote:
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has warned Manchester City not to expect any favours when the two sides meet in their final Champions League group fixture on December 7.

Bayern's 3-1 win over Villarreal ensured their passage to the last 16 as Group A winners while Napoli's 2-1 win over City took them into second place behind the Bundesliga side.

Napoli travel to Villarreal knowing a win would guarantee them a place alongside Bayern while City know that only a win over the Bavarians would give them a chance of reaching the knockout stages of the competition.
However, Rummenigge has promised that his side will be as committed as ever in Manchester.

"We are still going to try and win in Manchester," he said. "First of all, there are points for the five-year ranking at stake, and then there are 800,000 euros to the winner. We are not going to give anything away."

Europa League doesn't seem to be bothering Spurs. Maybe it's just assumed it causes problems for clubs because only shit ones like Liverpool and City have had a go at juggling it with top four aspirations in the past.

That's because we're largely fielding a 2nd/3rd string team.

Our last Europa match, for example, featured none of the players who started against Villa on Monday night.

Cheers and yep pretty firm words, so sounds like we should expect a full strength team out then. Ruminegge talks a lot of sense- the second division German club made me chuckle.

Bayern desperately wants to reach the final this year, especially as it's being played in their own ground. Knocking City out will eliminate a potentially dangerous opponent later in the tournament. I don't know much about Napoli to be honest, but I'd expect their squad to be much smaller than City's, which means that they'll most likely get worse as the season goes on. I don't think the same will happen to City with their massive squad.

I'm not really sure if it's better for us if City goes out or stays in. On one hand the extra CL games will be a nice distraction, and let's face it - they'll play a second string team if they go into Europa League, and still probably go very far. Could easily see them play a rather weakened team in one game and then put on some of their star players in the return leg, if they actually want to progress. Going out of the CL could be a big blow to their confidence though, which could very well outweigh the "positives" of playing fewer games.

I want them to go out though, as I think the confidence blow for going out in the group stage will mean more than not playing the extra games. I think playing CL keep the players maximum motivated. Also worth noting that we've won the league every time we've reached a final in Fergie's time.

They can gain almost as many points in the EL as they can in the CL. Last season Porto got 4th most points for winning the EL despite never being in the CL. Braga got 9th most for reaching the EL final after being knocked out in CL group stage.

If City finish 2nd they could draw Madrid or Barca and go out of the CL right away, gaining very little extra points. If they go into the EL they could go quite far and gain a lot of points with relative ease.

Clearly, many of the teams from outside of the PL will be concerned about the effect City is having on football as a whole and will be determined to put them out for the good of football. For this reason I'm hoping both Napoli and Bayern go all out to win their games

One of the great myths of football, that being in the Champions League has some kind of monstrous negative effect on your league form.
The last 4 winners of the Champions League have won their domestic titles in the same season.

Manchester City are not Stoke or Fulham, they have big game players, they can cope, playing on a Wednesday night won't automatically turn them into a village side on the weekend.
They've played 4 previous group games in the CL this season and how many league defeats have they had? ZERO. They beat Villarreal on a weeknight and beat us 6-1 on the weekend, playing in midweek obviously had a devastating effect on them on that occasion .

Add that to the fact they have a massive (pun intended) squad and so would easily cope with League and CL demands. I want these fuckers knocked out.

They've spent 900 million on players who have played Champions League football on a regular basis.
Kompany, De Jong, Toure, Silva, Aguero, Balotelli, Dzeko are no strangers to the demands of Champions League or European Football.

This isn't a Stoke or Birmingham we're talking about here, this is the most expensive team assembled in the history of sport. We're not talking about some pub players who struck lucky and hit gold, these players know what is expected.

Oh and name me a team who went into the Champs Lge for the first time, got through to the knockout stages and performed poorly domestically.

It's also a bloody good idea to put 1 strong team out of the competition- even if you can't meet 'em again 'til later.
Bayern have seen that one pinch 'em in the arse before now.

We played 'em 2 times in the '98 - '99 season before the wee Norwegian lad stuck a toe out.
I'll bet you they still wish we hadn't qualified.
