Boooooooooo Ince

Ince blasts 'disgraceful' decision

Blackburn boss Paul Ince has slammed the decision not to award a foul against Manchester United in the build-up to The Red Devils’ first goal in their 2-0 win over Rovers on Saturday, calling referee Steve Bennett’s judgment that the goal was fair a “disgrace”.

Ince’s cutting assessment of Wes Brown’s opener for United at Ewood Park was in response to what he believed was a foul on keeper Jason Brown by Nemanja Vidic. Replays of the goal indicate Brown may well have been impeded by United’s centre back, but Bennett decided that was not the case.

“I’m very disappointed,” Ince told Setanta Sports after the game.

“Whether it changed the pattern of the game, who knows? But at the end of the day, we’re still in it at 0-0. The referee or the linesman has got to make a decision.

“I went to a meeting before the start of the season with (referee chief) Keith Hackett and he’s telling me these referees are a lot fitter now and they can get themselves into position quicker.

“Obviously that’s not the case, looking at that because that’s a disgrace.”

Ince continued: “We were in the game and Matt Derbyshire had a great chance which the keeper saved.

“But once we conceded the first goal, which shouldn’t have been allowed, it was backs to the walls to be fair.

“They’re a class outfit and aren’t champions of Europe for nothing. They cut us open at times. Saying that when they can bring Carlos Tevez off the bench, who probably costs more than my first XI out there today, then you expect it’s going to be a very tough game.

“In that time they could have had four or five, which would have been a bit harsh on us, to be fair.”

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he had not had a clear view of the incident that led to Ince’s fury, but did state he thought Brown looked like he had enough of a chance to claim the ball.

“I couldn’t see it from where I was, that’s for sure,” said Ferguson. “I think the goalkeeper had every chance; the ball was in the air long enough for him to collect it, and I think that’s not our problem.”

It was just a very simple nudge, which to be fair, could be given a foul for on a different day. But Brown choose to go down to ground instead of clearing everything in his path to get the ball.

Something like Valdes against espanyol last week.

To be fair I have seen these type of decisions go in the keeper's favour.

If it'd been disallowed we would have felt wronged, as it is they feel wronged. Really tough one to call and it's certainly not a "disgrace" to allow it.

Nowadays that kind of challenge nearly always results in a free kick to the GK so you can see why Ince was a bit pissed off.

Nelson pushed Vidic into Brown.

So that's a penalty then.

I agree, Charlie. Shameful performance from Bennett. That's 3 penalty claims from us he rejected.

The ref was letting all manner of shite go unpunished today, mostly cynical fouls on Ronaldo by Blackburn players. Works both ways I'm afraid Paul.

Besides, Blackburn were getting spanked well before we took the lead

Vidic is being pushed into the GK, whats the problem its either a goal or a penalty, goal keepers get too much in those types of situations as it is.

If he's questionning this, then he should also question the fact it should have been a penalty too.

Charlie Charlie what's the score?

I can understand manager`s moaning about decisions when a fuck up from the ref costs them some points but Ince should just button it. If the goal had been chalked off we`d have been that bit more clinical in the second half and would probably have won by more than two.

one thing i must say about that cunt Bennett is that he's consistent.

your foot wood have to be dangling by the skin for him to give you anything, and then he'd have to run closer to make sure by tearing it off.

i've seen those given for the goalkeeper, but then there were a couple of clear fouls on Ronaldo esp. that simply weren't given.

how Ince can think that would have changed the game is beyond me. his side were out of it, we controlled the game from start to finish.

50/50 decision IMO.

Wouldn't have complained much had a fould been given - but certainly no 'disgrace'. touch and go...

If I remember correctly, Blackburn's goal in the 1-1 draw last season came after a push on Rio.

These decisions even themselves out.

Id like to see those go and the keeper to get a bit less protection. Obviously be protected from fouls but the decisions that go in their favour is ridiculous.

Saying that, normally that would be a foul.

How about Ince tells Derbyshite to put his one on one with VDS in the back of the net instead of blaming Bennett?

You don't even have to go that far back. Chel$ea's equaliser at the Bridge the other week had more than a hint of a foul about it.

In the case here, it seemed to me Nelson pushed Vidic into his own keeper.

It was kind of obvious that any sort of foul on Ronaldo would go unpunished with Bennett being the ref...

It wasn't a foul but will probably be given 9 times out of 10 as keepers are protected far too much.

There were shite decisions from the assistant ref too - he judged Ronaldo to have handled the ball when it hit his chest and ruled him offside when he was clearly not. Both were clear break aways that could have resulted in goals.

Vidic being pushed into the keeper is the correct answer.
