Sahin played a game that was very close to his form when he became player of the season in Germany. I have no idea what they did to him at Liverpool.

So much for Southampton playing with ten men and a goalkeeper, which is inexcusable according to The Educator.

Interestingly against the other top 8 teams Liverpool have only scored one goal which has had more than four passes. Suarez goal V Spurs. So much for the passing game they are supposedly playing.

If Rodgers really did ship Sahin out because of his "poor attitude" then it seems he didn't have a clue what kind of player he was buying. That's further supported by consistently playing him as a #10. He either thinks he's such a great manager that he can completely change a player's game or he just had to idea what Sahin was all about. He was always like this at Dortmund.

With his salary we would have struggled in getting Coutinho and Sturridge. A decision had to be made. Sahin, or Coutinho/Sturridge...hmmm.

Sahin played a blinder against Norwich at Carrow Road when we won 5-2 earlier on in the season. The following 5 matches he might has well have been sitting in the stands for all the use he was.

I can only judge him on what I saw. & it doesn't surprise, or disappoint, me, that Rodgers got rid as quickly as he did.

Up to now, the lad we've brought in to replace him (Coutinho) looks more than good enough to fill in the role as a midfield creator/goalscorer, irrespective of what Nuri Sahin does for the rest of his career.

Almost every game he played for us passed him by, he couldn't tackle and had no pace. Norwich away he did well but it was one of those games where everyone played well.
I expected, from what I had heard, a lot more from him.
He seems to be finding it hard to settle anywhere at the moment.

At the end of the day Brendan had his reasons and is better placed to judge.

Hey, did you ever want to talk about how I said Liverpool always fall apart when it matters and you said they didn't and then they immediately suffered that embarrassing loss this weekend when it mattered?

This 'Liverpool only play well when the pressure is off' stuff is lazy conjecture which becomes a bandwagon for people on here to jump on when we put a few good results together. It's possible it may all just fizzle out as it has done in the past. Or it's possible our young manager might just know what he's doing, & the recent results might be reflecting this.

9/10 - not too bad.

Sahin didn't play well because he wasn't used properly and if Rodgers didn't know that he needed to work around his limitations then he was just throwing money away because it was "just a loan". If he really brought him in to play the role Coutinho's playing now then he really didn't have a clue. He's played very well in his last two games for Dortmund back in his proper position.

Good luck to him, it didn't work out for the lad at LFC.

Hope he does well, I am not aware of the full reasons his loan was cut short, at the end of the day we are very happy with Coutinho.

As you should be, he's been a superb signing. I'm still amazed they let him go after how highly he was rated and for a relatively cheap fee.

If you can get a better player than Downing and Henderson (keep for squad deprh or replace) and a decent quality CB. I think top 4 next season is a realistic aim. All of Rodgers permanent signings have been good IMO (Allen hasn't been a bit of a disappointment but could still step up) and you're actually playing good football at times again. Next season you'll have more consistency, a few more signings and Lucas back from the start.

Good post.

Allen started the season well, but has tailed off to be honest, though the shoulder injury he currently is sidelined with has been hampering him for months so for the moment can give him the benefit of the doubt.

Henderson is getting better to be fair and gets forward at least, as he showed at the weekend and looks a different player to last season when he just played negative sideways and backward passes all the time. Downing is far from brilliant but has done ok since the turn of the year and does add some balance to the side.

You are right about the Centre Back for sure, it has to be a priority, I actually wouldn't be surprised if we have to buy 2 of them.

At the moment if Lucas doesnt start for them away from home I think they are very opposable. Their midfield in his absense can be non existent at times.

So against certain teams they are destined to struggle...Southampton was good example recently

It's not working away from home, or didn't work against Southampton when Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez and Downing all play in the same team.

It was almost 4-2-4 at times against them and we had little protection for the back four.
That's why he changed it yesterday.

He will need to think on his plans for next year, especially if he wants Coutinho/Sturridge and Suarez to be in the same team.

Borini ? Assaidi has barely played too but he was a cheaper punt.

Nobody knows why Assaidi hasn't been given more game time, he has looked ok when he has featured.
Borini obviously has question marks over him, but 2 bad injuries haven't helped so it's probably a bit early to judge, but yes when he is fit he needs to start making an impression.

I'm a big fan of Lucas, but it was his Sunday league defending which allowed Southampton to score their third and final goal in that game. He was just sauntering back after Rodriguez and allowed him to run at the heart of their defence all too easily. Woeful from Lucas there.
