BT Sport

Lot's of new information has been released about BT Sport today with the main news being it's free for BT broadband subscribers (yaay!) http://www.btlife.bt.com/entertainme...-bt-broadband/

They also released information about their line up Jake Humphrey will anchor the football, interesting choice of commentary with Michael Owen, Ian Darke and Darren Fletcher (Radio 5 live) http://www.btlife.bt.com/entertainme...orting-talent/

Not sure about the commentary but it can't get much worse than Waddle on ESPN and being a BT broadband customer to get it free is great.

Is Rio gonna have much time to play for us if he's gonna be a football expert and programme-maker for BT?!

I like Jake Humphrey's he was great on the F1 and it cant get much worse than ESPN.

Rio also tweeted this today - 'Great to be part of the @BTsport team, great team shaping up across all sports!'

He will definitely be good value as a part time pundit.

Aye they seem to have gone for a few younger pundits and broadcasters which is a good move. Rio, Hargreaves, McManaman and David James are in the line up while they have people like Tim Lovejoy doing other aspects of the show. It sounds much more appealing than ESPN plus they are showing 38 games compared to ESPN's previous 23. I don't listen to 5 live though, is Darren Fletcher any good?

Don't know why Hargreaves, James or Rio's there. Owen might sound iffy, but think of five good co-commentators. Pronouncing 'penalty' correctly is a must for this job IMO.

Tim Lovejoy I'm neither here nor there about. Didn't hear about Humphrey but he's an excellent presenter. Alongside Dan Walker, Hazel Irvine and Clare Balding for me.

Ian Darke, whilst I like his passion, I'm not overly keen on. Steve McManaman requires no introduction.

Darren Fletcher's always seemed a good commentator, but TV commentary is very different to radio.

All in all, it'll be nice to break Sky's monopoly.

Is there any word on its availability to Virgin Media customers?

Free? What's the catch? I bet it won't be free to BT broadband customers who want it through Sky. They will have to subscribe to BT vision first.

Its pretty much as it was with ESPN though except a few extra games.

I doubt SKY will be too worried at this stage

Not true; BT get picks of some of the games. So instead of having Arsenal at home to West Ham, and United away to Norwich, they'll have Arsenal at home to Tottenham, and United away to Chelsea.

That's not a bad price, ESPN was £10 month so it's an extra £5 for two channels.

It is seriously free if you have BT Broadband? no small print?
I'm out of contract on broadband and was waiting to see what the deal was with the BT Footy

Sky have banned BT adverts from their Sky Sports channels so they must be slightly concerned.

Same, my Sky Broadband contract ends in July, if this is accurate I know who I'll be moving to.

Still not clear to me but looks like you need to go for the full BT package (phone, broadband and TV) to get the free footy - been reading the small print and it all starts to get a bit complicated with options revolving around BT Infinity, BT Vision and YouView

Ian Darke is a solid enough choice i suppose. Fletcher can be annoying although that was partly influenced by the desire to attract callers to 606.

As for Owen...will there be much difference between listening to his punditry and having the volume on mute?

Also of interest who will be who their cast for the studio analysis, if he's still out of a job O'Neill might be a good option.

Sick of the constant changes. I've been confortable over the last few years with paying for Sky Sports HD and getting ESPN free with Virgin Media TiVo, now BT have fucked things up.

Looks like it's back to streaming late saturday kick-offs thanks to BT, wankers.

I'd be more than happy if Sky had the "monopoly" and broadcasted every single live game. At least it would stop us consumers having to fork out for multiple suscriptions and as a result paying more.

Exactly this. It's a huge inconvenience for me now.

Have BT just basically taken ESPN's games?

Didn't they get some higher category matches too as well as the current ESPN quota?

Under the new agreement, BT secured two of the seven packages on offer, showing 28 Saturday lunchtime games, including the opening game of the season, and 10 matches taking place on bank holidays or midweek evenings.

Virgin and BT are in talks about a package, I think they'll work something out as Virgin know they will face a backlash if we can't see all the live games possible.

Taken from the BT website. It looks like all you need is their broadband to get BT Sport FOC.

On Sky Digital Satellite Platform - If you have a satellite receiver box and viewing card, you can easily take BT Sport from us. You don't need to be a BT customer - but if you have our broadband, it's free. And it's only available direct from BT. Order now for free HD for a year.

Nope it's available through Sky you don't need BT vision to enable the deal. The only thing needed is top agree to a 12 month broadband contract and since im very happy with BT anyway im going to sign up without a second thought. It's a great deal to be honest.

I just got my MAC code from Plusnet and am looking for a new provider. BT is one of the more expensive options, but with the footy thrown in, it's more tempting.

Iv been with their broadband for 2 years now (currently on fibre 70mbps) and it's been great, the modem broke once on a Friday, they had a engineer out with a brand new one by Saturday afternoon. They just added unlimited to my package as well, there's no limits or bottle necking at peak hours.

Should have clarified that I dont have a Sky box so in that case you need to go for BT Vision. Although you do get access to it for free online just with a broadband subscription.

Can I just ask, if you get BT Broadband, you'd also need BT Vision to get the sport thrown in right? You can't just get it all as one package?

Mr and my housemate are planning on getting BT broadband next year. Don't plan on paying for TV as well.

From what I can see, if you dont have a sky box then you need a BT vision or BT youview box to get the free footy on your TV - and you can get one of those for free if you sign up for BT TV (cheapest package 5quid a month).
Also depends if BT Infinity (fibre optic) is available in your area or not
