I must admit a player that is a pleasure to watch, it will weaken them while he is out for sure.

Unlucky mate, especially as you'd put so much in this thread.

Just looked at the scoring system again and realized it's a bit shit. -2 for being caught offside, that's very harsh.

Well it just gives midfielders that bit extra chance of winning, brings them into the game. And I don't like Inzaghi, this was the easy way to ensure he couldn't victor

The scoring system is seriously gay. Not sour grapes, obviously.

I agree with gazza and psmith. We should change the scoring system and have a rematch. Not a soreloser either just an observation

Interesting scoring:

Madrid vs Roma
Camerony [Raul] -3 vs Crappycraperson 2 [Robinho]
zing [Robben] 0 vs Wittman 2 [Robinho]

Porto vs Schalke
December_16 [Quaresma] 9 vs 1 [Lopez] 2Psmith
relx [González] -7 vs 9 [Quaresma] M160RA

Chelsea vs Olympiacos
Tabasco Sauce [Drogba] -2 vs 6 [Ballack] Gasolin
Rooney24 [Drogba] -2 vs GazM 0 [Anelka]

Quaresma suffered ELEVEN fouls which meant he was a fine horse to back, while Drogba's performance gained negative points, so despite Anelka not even playing, he proves the more successful pick!

Crappycraperson, Wittman, December_16, M160RA, Gasolin and GazM all progress

Those moaning about the scoring system - after they lost - have to realise they signed up to this game with the scoring system as it was. The objective is to bring midfielders into the game, and it is certainly doing that

My player scored a goal but loses because Quaresma got fouled more. Bizarre to say the least. Plus a shot on target is only worth 1 point.

A reminder to Demaples and AllHailManUtd to get their predictions in the day before the game. If nothing is left in this thread midnight before, both will be excluded and a 'lucky loser' from the previous round will take their place

Incidently, should any scores in this competion be a tie, whoever scored the most takes precidence, then whoever provided the most assists, then whoever suffered the most fouls. If all of those are tied, it's down to a coin toss

If there's a need, I'll just use the same random number generator as I did for making the draw in the first place

Common sense dictates I really should pick a Inter player but I don't seem to be able to do that, so will go with Torres.

Allhailmanutd has sent me his pick; Gerrard.

Ok, with the feedback recieved from ever so slightly bitter losers(!), I'm adjusting the scoring system slightly now we've reached the end of the first round. Shots on target are to be worth 1 more point; starting the game is worth 5 points, coming on as sub is worth 3 points. So the revised list of scoring:

Start +5
Sub Appearance +3
Goal +3
Assist +5
Shots on target +2
Foul Suffered +1
Foul Committed -1
Offside -2
Yellow Card -3
Red Card -5

I've drawn the successful posters at random using the same website as before, they are displayed below. I'll post again on Friday when you'll discover which game you will be predicting on. Good luck!

2.London_Red v 13.Gasolin
5.Scholesy_LEGEND v 1.Ekeke

3.marcosdeto v 6.Sidsutton
12.M160RA v 14.GazM

16.Erics Collar v 11.December_16
9.Crappycraperson v 4.green demon

15.Demaples v 7.Brad Cantona
10.Wittman v 8.Francobaresi

Bit f'ing late now Brad, how the feck does one lose when ones opponent isn't even playing.

This rule should be from the start, or this competition is meaningless.

I'm not bitter.

Mate, this competition is meaningless however you look at it!

But it's good fun, and gives a small amount of added value to Champions League games. Plus there is mild glory to take from a competion that will last several months!

Are the points going to be over one game Brad, or over two, ie, both legs?

If I am assuming one game here:

After the next game, there well be 8 people left for the 2nd QF game, after that, there well be 4 people left for the 1st SF. After 1st SF, there well be 2, and after the 2nd, only 1.

I am sure you want to incorporate the Final, so are you going to make the quarters count over both legs or the semis?
