Carragher "We're pretty shite really"

Quote:
Jamie Carragher accepts Liverpool might not win the Premier League next season, but he is desperate for the team to at least be in the hunt come next May.

The Reds are often tipped to provide the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea with stiff competition for the title only to slip out of contention before the final straight.

Carragher knows the team have underachieved in the league after going 19 years without title success and believes the time has come to still be in with a shout of becoming champions at the end of the season.

Although Liverpool have enjoyed success domestically in cup competitions and in Europe, Carragher is desperate for a Premier League winners' medal to complete his collection.
Rarely challenged

"People always talk about us pushing for the league, but to be honest it isn't very often that we've even challenged," he told the club's official website.

"If we were challenging with 10 or 15 games to go then who knows? But just a challenge this season would be nice, to still be in the hunt.

"I think it's only happened once since I've been in the team, when I played a few games under Roy Evans. We probably should have won the league but let it slip towards the end.

"I'd take a title medal over anything else at the moment because that would make my full set, but I just want to be competitive in the league."
Prepare to be disappointed Jamie

Now, now people, give him and his team a chance to make a challenge. If they are still in the title race by April then Carragher will be right. Maybe next year they will finally do it.

The funny thing is that they thought they had a chance to win the league with less than ten games, when they came to OT, our team showed how pathetic their 'challenge' was that day

How he wasn't sent off at OT this year is beyond Rooney ran right around and past him as if he was some sort of grandpa

At least he admits things and doesn't have his head up his arse like 99.9% of Liverpool fans/players.

it says they've done well domestically in cups and in europe.i find myself thinking when?I wouldn't consider their haul in the last 10 years doing well.

Compared to their league runs in the past 20 theyve done a lot better in the cups

Well since Rafa took over, he's won the CL and FA Cup and they are STILL finishing 3rd/4th/5th (delete as necessary!). Yet they think Rafa is a God for what he's achieved. When Liverpool won the CL in Rafa's first season in charge, it was predicted he had finally turned Liverpool's fortunes around but they are still no better off. They aren't seriously challenging for the league every season, the highlight recently seems to be the fight to finish for the all important fourth spot.

I think Carrrrraghhers attitude sums it up really, they don't believe they can win the league. For this I am happy. The spanish waiter turned to talking about the all important 4th spot for the last month of deomestic competition.

Benitez has actually made them a more consistent outfit year on year in the league. We all (rightfully so) revel in taking the piss out of the Dippers but they lost less games than us last season, so they must be going in the right direction.

The problem is that their level of improvement is cancelled out by the improvement made by the other three clubs.

I doubt signings like Dossena and Degen will bridge the gap though. Neither will replacing Alonso with Barry, I hope.

Losing fewer games is hardly going to win them the title. If you didn't realise 3 draws is only worth as much as 1 win and 2 losses..

It's all about the number of games you WIN, not how many you lose.

You know that, I know that... but it's amazing how often managers' (including Fergie) players' and the media's observations seem to completely miss that point.

He didn't say April.

He'd be happy to make it to January in with a shout.

I bet if Adrian Durham said LFC supporters should be glad if they are just still in the race by January, Jamie would threaten to ask him over to his house to beat him up again.

Liverpool's Jamie Carragher claws his way to the top.

Give it time.

At this point last year he made two amazing pronouncements.

1) The title winner would either be Chelsea or WOULD DEFINITELY finish above Chelsea. (Wow - spooky - how'd he know?)

2) LFC were in the best position to be that team (doh!).

Absolutely. But cutting their number of defeats to four is a step in the right direction. I agree though, too many drawn matches last season for them.

A draw is a pretty fucked up results when you're in a title better, you're better off attacking until the very last minute and bringing on a striker for a defender than playing it safe and being content with a draw at any point of a game.

We lost more games than Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool last season but ended up winning the title.

We lost to West Ham, Man City twice, Chelsea and Bolton.

Chelsea lost to us, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

Liverpool lost to us twice, Reading and one team I cannot recall.

Arsenal lost to us, Chelsea and Middlesbrough.

I'd be grateful if anybody named the team Liverpool lost to as I cannot recall them. Surely not Arsenal or Chelsea because they drew all 4 games against them.

New Reds defenders eye title tilt

Liverpool's two new full-backs Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena both believe they have signed for a club with genuine title chances.

Sounds amazingly like Harry Kewell's 'I signed for Liverpool because they're a team on the up'
