Champions League 2009-2010 1/8 Finals
A thread like this will be created at some point, so I decided to do it myself.
Did anyone notice that the games are this week and next week? I haven't seen this discussed. Anyone know why? It's because UEFA want to attract a bigger TV audience by spreading the fixtures out over 4 weeks. For example, England and Italy can both watch Milan v United and Inter v Chelsea thus more viewers for both games.

It makes sense to schedule it this way specially for United and Chelsea as they both take on 2 teams sharing one stadium. No way were United and Chelsea gonna play the same week

This new scheduling seems a bit gay, and somewhat pointless.
I mean, they've spread it out to two games a night, presumably to maximise viewing/television revenue, and yet still managed to get United and Real, probably the two biggest money spinners, playing at the same time

The way the sched is made up, United and Milan play within 2 weeks, get a bunch of weeks off, and then start round 2... the clubs who start on the second week, get less time off, and start playing sooner (In some cases, depending how the draw works) Or am I looking too far into this? |

The revenue argument is valid but I also think the fact that AC Milan and Inter play in the same stadium influenced Uefa's decision. In 2006 and 2008 we had to play our eight-final game one week later 'cause AC Milan were also playing the 2nd leg at the San Siro. I like this new format actually.

I like it. My station always showed 3 of 4 games live each day around this time. Straight after they'd do a show reviewing all the games and then rerun a game that you'd miss and after that the third game. I'd often watch two games but a three would be a bit too much since I have a girlfriend and a university life. Now I can watch all of them if I choose too. That's only a good thing.

Disappointing personally that the next team I like watching after United is Real Madrid, who play on the same night. I dislike watching Arsenal so they can fuck off. Usually watch Chelsea when they are on, and against Inter should be two great games.

Here sky run a conference, where they randomly switch during all the matches that are being played - that way you won't miss any goal.
It's always plenty of fun during the group stages, when 8 matches are being played at the same time and a total number of around 30 goals were scored. |

For me it's a good thing. Means there's less change of United and Barcelona plaing on the same day making it less of a mission to find anywhere showing the United game.
This is until United and Barca meet of course, which i am preying does happen. |

Lyon 1 Real Madrid 0, apparantly Real were shite, and Lyon should have won by more. Any chance of an upset? I'll laugh my bollox off if the Franco cnuts fail to make the quarters again.

Porto vs Arsenal
FC Porto: Helton, Fucile, Rolando, Bruno Alves, Pereira, Ruben Micael, Fernando, Raul Meireles, Varela, Falcao, Hulk. Subs: Beto, Guarin, Belluschi, Gonzalez, Maicon, Costa, Miguel Lopes. Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Campbell, Vermaelen, Clichy, Diaby, Denilson, Fabregas, Rosicky, Bendtner, Nasri. Subs: Mannone, Vela, Walcott, Ramsey, Silvestre, Eboue, Traore. Very tough for Arsenal methinks, I could see Porto winning 2-0 |
