My experience from living there for 18 years.

The country itself's great, but there's an unusually large proportion of knobs that live here unfortunately.

Stuff like that's entirely unnecessary and it's ruining the country.

Just keep throwing out those jokes and ignore the real problems, yep, if everyone's like that then Northern Ireland's never going to be as good as it should be.

Lived in Belfast for the majority of it, and with it being the best city in Northern Ireland I reckon I've got a fair amount of evidence to make that judgement.

Wow,having a laugh at the expense of their rivals!

Suppose United fans are just as bad then, for wanting to burn city and scouse fans.

FWIW Decotron, the FAI was the organisation that split from the original Irish FA,thus making the need for a Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland team,so you can stop trying to bring politics into it.

I'm a little bit confused.

1.Why do they play in green and white?

2. Why do they say our wee country?..if the political partition of 1920's had of been say the west or the east (or whereever they could exclude the catholic majority from)..would they sing Eastern Ireland..or Western Ireland..

3. Why are they so heavily linked with loyalists, protestants and Rangers?

4. Why do they sing God save the Queen..when shes English and does their britishness and their presence in " Ireland" for 400 years mean they have more right than the " indiginous" Irish..or is that a Nick Griffenism

5. Why do they boo Celtic players like fat lennon ( although of course in any measurement he is horrible) and Anton Rogan and Roy Aiken at George Bests testimonial

1.Because that is the colour the original Ireland team played in,under the IFA,who now run the Northern Ireland football team.

2.It's just a nickname. 2nd part just seems irrelevant.

3.NI supporters have had problems in the past,we can admit it,but we've moved on and stamped out most of the Protestant side of supporting the team, which some people seem to find very hard to take.

"Those who wish to live in the past and apply outdated labels to all Northern Ireland fans are the real bigots"
Kenny Archer
Irish News 14/09/05

4.The anthem is the subject of a lot of debate between NI fans,I personally would rather have something specific to Northern Ireland, perhaps a 'Sporting Anthem',such as Ireland's Call in rugby. However,as part of the UK,GSTQ is a valid anthem to use,and I'm not going to let something so petty stop me from supporting my national team.

5. The Aitken and Rogan incidents were part of the shameful past of NI fans,we can accept that it shouldn't have happened. Lennon was booed because he was on record as saying he wanted a United Ireland team, which doesn't exactly show much pride in playing for your country. During the next match after the death threats, from the LVF not NI supporters, fans held up banners in support of Lennon. Niall McGinn and Paddy McCourt have recently played for NI without any problems.

It doesn't have to be any more, that's the thing, only our detractors seem to want to keep bringing politics into it,NI fans want to move on,and largely have done.

hmmm all right then

1. Fucking bully for them...they do play in IRELAND after all..just thought they might have chosen another brighter colour to reflect loyalities thats all

2. The nickname is because of the 2nd part..its completely relevant and linked to the politics which is central to the issue..despite denials

3. I'd wager most of the crowd are protestant at Windsor ( clue there) park..in the village ( clue there)..where they sing GSTQ ( clue there)..and talk about a country only " created" less then a 100 years ago...its part of Ireland and no more British than fucking India was..just cause you put a few thousand folk there who think they are british dont make it so

4. " my national team".....

5. Niall mcginn and Paddy mccourt have played without any problems...awww is'nt that nice toe the line..put up with the shite ..say nothing and you'll be ok...George best said he wanted a United ireland team as well..he was'nt threatened..but he was'nt catholic...was he?

glad I left that bigoted shithole and folk like you many moons ago

1.I answered your question and you're still and twat about it,no surprise there then.

2.To answer your question,if hypothetically, the East or West of Ireland had been separated, then yes, if I had been born there I probably would have supported them, not that it matters.

3.There probably is a majority of protestants who are at NI matches, not due to Northern Ireland supporters, but mostly the reluctance of some Catholics to realise that things have changed and to give supporting their national team a go, you seem to be providing a perfect example of this, thank you.

4.Arguments on the Internet for Dummies Rule 1: If you can't think of a response, quote something and post smilies.

5.You implied that NI fans still boo Celtic players,I gave you two recent examples, and once again, you act the twat about it. Neil Lennon wasn't threatened by NI fans but by paramilitaries, you will have to ask them why they didn't also do it to George Best.

Glad to hear you're not around anymore, the less Northern Ireland has of bigots on either side the better.

you assume I'm catholic..thats quite funny...simply because I throw a few sandwiches and someone like you bites..you are welcome to the bigoted little shitehole you live in..I live in a normal society without massive metal fences to keep the scum apart..keep telling yourself things are different when there are policemen still getting bombed and shot and the " politicians" cant agree on the colour of shite..which brings me back to the NI football team...small minded fans who are getting awards for anti sectarian initiatives..FFS..have you ever heard of such a thing in a decent footballing country...beggars belief

I was using you as an example of someone who has not moved on and is still living in the 70's,no matter what your religion.

Once again, you clearly have issues distinguishing between the football team and the politics, which doesn't surprise me coming from someone who clearly has so little knowledge about the former, and what you do know is mostly 20+ years old.

Glad you brought up the fans getting awards, saves me having to mention, are the neutrals from UEFA,etc all Protestant Rangers fans who love to reward NI fans for their 'bigotry'.

I won't be replying to you again as you're clearly unreasonable when it comes to this matter, this country is much better without people like you.

3: Windsor was already a stadium before the National football team opted to play there and take part in the now famous 100 year lease. Purely coincidence you bring "Windsor" as a clue. Catholics do go, im a prime example. Me and a few of my mates go. Whats the point in travelling to dublin when my national team only plays up the road.
I also reckon most catholics who do go, would go in small football mad cliques like myself or in families and the people who get offended by events that happened 400 years before they were born stay away? I mean are we talking football here or politics? I dont think you can distinguish between the 2.

5: Sammy Clingan- Falls Road man...idolised by supporters! To add to Pat McCourt and Niall McGinn.

Jus a can of worms opens with this topic of which people will twist the answers to suit their own argument which is a vicious circle and if they cant solve it in real life then it won't be sorted on an internet forum.

It's funny how Northern Ireland fans got awards when they booed the Catholic element out of the team and were then left with the type of players they wanted, why wouldn't they stop booing when there were no Catholics left on the pitch?
Hopefully though those days are gone and the small number of sectarian pricks are gone from the support but you only had to see the trouble at home to Poland to see how it could all kick off again.

Sorry, that should be why did they boo Celtic players? Not 'do' as it hasn't happened in a long while, Celtic players have recently played for Northern Ireland without any problems at all.

Britain can be used in short to refer to either the island of Great Britain or the United Kingdom (of GB and NI), so including NI as part of 'Britain' is not incorrect.

that site was created for the sole purpose of pissing GB off! But on the subject, when fans of both Irelands are sitting at home again this summer scratching their bollocks and watching other teams enjoy the world cup, that website might get a few more hits.

Thats always going to be something that may come up again Gal, for instance Anton Rogan didn't get much abuse but Neil Lennon did, thats always going to change as the mood in NI changes!

Fair play to you for speaking out; i'm fed up listening to the likes of Robbo spouting shite. I personally know a few Catholic lads who make the trip up from Derry.

In terms of players, lets not forget the great Pat Jennings, Mal Donaghy etc.

Btw Anton Rogan was booed because he was shite FWIW

Neil Lennon was caught singing IRA songs in a bar wasn't he? I couldn't really care what happened to him then.
