Big debate about this already in the footie forum. Surely articles from the Daily Mail don't warrant a thread in the transfer forum

I genuinely don't know if money is really much of an object to him any more. He's an incredibly wealthy young man and although he obviously wouldn't go for a squad wage, I think he'd accept the top end wage that we could offer. Maybe a deal just a bit more than Rooney.

I think there is two factors though and it comes down to ego.

1. I'm not sure I can see him swallowing his pride and leaving Real Madrid without winning the League or Champions League let alone WPOTY?

2. It'd certainly massage his ego having a heroes welcome back to Old Trafford playing for a club I think he genuinely came to love playing for a Manager we know he had a fantastic relationship with.

I'd love to see it happen, but I can't see it happening.

If he does leave Real (giant IF) and doesn't opt for a new challenge, say in Italy at AC Milan, then I genuinely hope he wouldn't go to City just for the cash.

I don't think he would do that to Sir Alex, it was obviously hard enough for him to leave for his dream let alone a shit tin-point piggybank club.

Nike are going to buy out United. With the Glazers financially satisfied and gone, they can then finance the purchase of Ronaldo, along with a selection of other world class players attached to the brand. We'll have to deal with a few minor changes though, like renaming the stadium to the Old Nike, and the club being referred to as Uniked.

Very likely scenario Hectic.

Uniked sounds like Eunach though.

Firstly, Madrid wouldnt be too keen on selling him.
And more importantly, way too expensive for us.

A cheeky return by Ronaldo to United, closely followed by Mourinho.

Front four of Welbeck, Rooney, Ronaldo and Nani. I'd call that cheating on FM

Really? I can't think of too many other managers that could take the mantle of Fergie.

I can't think of a manager as odious and against everything I value in football as Mourinho.

Would love Ronaldo back though. His debut was one of my favorite moments ever at OT.

Can we afford him? Let's just say we need at least 80m, well, actually look at the number of goals he scored there, we probably need at least 120m to convince Real Madrid to sell.

I don't see why the purchase price would be an issue, we spent £60M in the summer, or whatever, so we could do it again.

Central midfield would still be light although I'm sure we'd muddle through as always and Ronaldo would score hatfuls of goals.

What happens to Valencia though, central midfield? Didn't he used to play there anyway?

Wet Dream. And thats its all it ever will be.

The Nightmare scenario, of him signing for City, is much more realistic.

Fergie wouldn't use Ronaldo as a winger anymore, bar maybe a few games here and there.

Nani, Valencia on the wings. Then Rooney with Ronaldo ahead of him I would guess.

It'll never happen though, pure muppetry.

Which would leave Welbeck and Hernandez where? Which midfielders do we have capable of supporting those attacking 4 players, I think we'd definitely need a specialist defensive midfielder in their against the top sides anyway?

I don't know why I am indulging in this fantasy though! It really will never happen.

The star – who joined Real from Manchester United in an £80 million world record transfer in June 2009 – has confided to family and friends that he misses Old Trafford and his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who he regarded as a father figure and mentor.

If Ronaldo does leave Madrid, Manchester City would be among the favourites to snap him up
lol. Great writing there.

He has two more years on his contract. If he does not renew in the summer than there may be some substance to these rumours.

And anyway, we need a new Wesley transfer muppet thread for this summer anyway.

Let the muppetry commence!

Everything will put on hold until aterward so the selling clubs can ramp the prices up. It will be a nightmare.

Tend to agree - he divides opinion (just like Fergie) but I can't think of any other manager whoh has the force of personality to take over from the greatest manager of all time and not be constantly compared. He's also very succesful.

As for Ronaldo would love to see him back in a United shirt - whether we could afford him is a different matter.

Fergie always rotates, I'm sure he'd find room for them.

We already need another midfielder, that would change nothing.

But yes, muppetry.

Yeh, but Ronaldo's price won't be affected by Euro 2012, he's the 2ndbpitw and Portugal aren't going to set the competition alight anyway...
