FA to review red card system

Quote:
FA to review red card system to give individual assessment to all incidents

The Football Association are considering overhauling their disciplinary system so that the punishment for red cards would be individually assessed.

By Jeremy Wilson

At present, players are given an automatic three-match ban for serious foul play but, under reforms that could be introduced next season, the punishment would involve a minimum one-match ban that a regulatory commission could lengthen at their discretion.

The proposal would give the FA flexibility in dealing more harshly with dangerous tackles, but also when a sending off may have been deemed harsh.

The minimum ban would be one game with the maximum punishment open-ended depending on the severity of the incident.

It would lead to longer bans for particularly bad fouls, such as the challenge from Middlesbrough's Emanuel Pogatetz on Rodrigo Possebon, of Manchester United, at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

It is understood that the proposed commission would sit as soon as possible after the relevant match.
I'm not sure whether giving more power to the farcical FA is a good idea, though...

FA to review red card system

After protests from A.P. Oplectic from London, the FA are to investigate the suggestion that Manchester United receive too few red cards - certainly less than they deserve.

"Mr Oplectic pointed out to us that it was nothing short of scandalous that a team could receive 7 yellows and no red - and that this must indicate bias in favour of Utd on the part of the official.

Whilst the FA distances itself from any accusations of bias amongst the officials it has made enquiries and established a consensus of opinion that Manchester United get off lightly in this regard.

'It seems we will have to take some corrective action' said the FA spokesman, A. Nimbecile."

This is just going to cause ever more complications. I think it would be best for the FA to keep things the way they are.

I think they should keep the same rules in place and have an independent panel to decide only on those Red cards that is given which is either Harsh/Wrongly given or for Bad Tackles/lack of respect/etc..

They will have a special desk for Man United cards, manned by a committee consisting of two fans each from the other top three sides.

I'd rather have a review system for pathetic referees than one for red cards.

It's a step in the right directly at least. All depends how they apply it, and how great a sanction they're willing to come too for horrific and dangerous challenges

Despite the fact they defended themselves previously on incidents such as Guthrie breaking the Hull lads leg, I think we can take this as an admission that they're system is fucked. Not that they'd admit it, even now. I wonder is Feeding Seagulls works for them by any chance...
