Can't one of the mods check the IP addresses for the posts? If they're from the same address, we'll know he's lying

Amol, of course you get tons of Arsenal "supporters" in India. Well, maybe not in Delhi as you say, but in Bombay where I live, theres hordes of them. Most have surfaced over the last 2-3 years, but no surprises there. In fact, one of my friends who portrayed himself to be a hard core United fan, (and at a time it did actually seem as though he was a true supporter) suddenly switched over to Arsenal a few years ago. This was the same guy I watched the 99 CL final with, and who I celebrated that win every night for the next summer with. And then when Arsenal won the Premiership a few years later, he swithced, citing the reason as the style of football that they play, and how he finds that more attractive than Man Utd's. I was quite surprised when he decided to remain with Arsenal when we won in 2003 though. Now he's busy winding me up about last season and their unbeaten run. Twat.

I'm quite surprised about the story of the Leeds fan though. Coz in India, I've NEVER seen a supporter of a team other than these - United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona.

Ahhh Mr.Wood please dont be so naive.

His friends obviously stole his password, and then came down to his own house, gagged him up and deposited him in the corner, and then used his own computer to make all those pro-man utd posts. Dont you see, its the perfect crime!! And you have the audacity to call our dear Donado a glory hunter. Tsk tsk.

I stay on Worli Seaface jatin. Location says London coz I spend 8 months of the year studying there.

Anyways, yeah I have seen true fans here but many more glory-hunters who jump ship at the slightest sign of hard ship.

Also, I've seen people in Bombay claim themselves to be 'fans' of certain clubs for the most ridiculous reasons.

Get a load of this, I know a guy who 'supports' Bolton coz, in his own words, 'the white jersey rocks dude, its so fuckin cool!!!'

And another friend of mine. Hadnt even seen a football game 2 years back. I introduced him to Fifa 2003 the comp game, and he chose to play with Madrid on my recommendation since they would be easy to win with. and he started supporting them coz he liked the way their team played in the computer game. He actually saw madrid on tv for the first time about a month after he'd allegedly started supporting them.

btw, are you in bombay too jatin..?

But the thing is...these people never really did support the club did they?? They just like the idea of a club...feel a little attached...feel proud calling themselves fans or supporters of something successful...dont even watch all the matches...but keep in touch with the news.. And when the team starts to lose..they have no clue whats happening...they detach themselves from it.

These arent really supporters...it shouldnt be taken too seriously.. Youl get alot of people like this in India..but they never really were supporters.. it was just something they found interesting forawhile. Its probabily more serious in the Japan, china region than india.

To respond to nialler.. we (in india) have been getting premiership coverage only for the last few years now.
Yeap I am from India, Delhi to be precise.
Most ppl in my college support Arsenal, although many have cropped up this year only.

24 hours and Donado hasn't challenged us to check the IPs. Don't bother check them, it is obvious that they are the same.

Fine then, I 'challenge' you..please do go ahead and check them.

And considering I haven't really got the marks I desired in my exams so I just decided to cut down on my net usage.

And, Nialler,I'm 16 years old and you're right that perhaps us 'supporters' here in India do not really have much of an idea about what it is like to be close to a team, to be with them through their ups and downs but the thing is, you can't really blame us.The quality of the leagues here in India is so poor that some of the lovers of football here support teams in England and Spain. Many of them might have no idea what it is to be a supporter but I can say for myself that I was attracted to the way Arsenl play their game.I remember watching my first EPL game some four years back and I remember Lee Dixon coming on for Kanu(or I think it was vice versa) and I also remember liking the way they played that game..and sine then I've 'supported' them

Lee Dixon (of all players) coming on for Kanu? Sounds like a fucking great game, the Arse trying to hold on to a lead and watching Lee Dixon in action. Oh my, the thought of it , I think I'm going to come.

honestly 'supporters' is a too loosely thrown around word... From my experience there are very few people i know in delhi who actually support a club... its rare to find someone who actually supports a club... too many people who just keep up to date...watch a game here and there...
This one friend of mine who i hadnt met for years... he tells me 'i used to like manu but when beckham left is stopped'... this kindof thing is REALLY common..

some four years back ou would have been 12
and the EPL wasn't on broadcast in india here
well not any one of the free/common channels that time
i had it as i had to pay the fuckin greedy cable guy some extra dough

and at the age of 12 you must have been a genius to actually recognize someone's style of play even though you had just started watching football

hell it took me a year to understand properly what style we (as in manu ) play, coz style is not something fixed its very flexible

forlan and veron couldn't understand our style being players here for two seasons and you got it in a jiffy at the age of 12

forget adu get donado

Iam an old timer compared to you guys. When i was playing (.i.e) way back in the early 90's the trend was like majority of those guys who played along wih me supported either Pool or Milan and in international football we all supported Brazil.

Only some of us were supporting United and we didnt have facilities to chat in the net or consistent live coverage of First Division ,premiership or the Eroupean leagues (except Italian).

As for me I was more obsessed with my local club and followed United only in big matches and followed the rest predominantly through magazines.

I felel United started attracting more young fans after 1994-1995 season and pool are still the biggest club in Asia in terms of support. Now its the other way around.Arsenal are attracting more and more fans as they play more attractive football than the rest. But Iam sure many of those so called supporters in Asia and Eroupe would ditch their team if they run through a bad patch like United or Pool.
