Hargreaves was Englands best player, give the lad a break
Both Coles were shocking
Rooney isnt a lone striker
Crouch and Owen cant play together
Gerrard is having a big big dip in form

It's kinda hard for Gerrard to concentrate on performing for England when his club side are so close to winning the domestic title.

Agree on the Rooney thing. Especially for England. He can do it for us because he will have 3 or 4 players busting their balls to get up with him. He'd probably be better suited for England playing in one of the wider positions or not at all.....

Hargreaves was good last night but i think it was pointless him playing. If we're going to have 2 holding midfield players someone like Hargreaves (all about the tackling) was unecessary IMO. Carrick+Barry would have been better. 2 players to win the ball and both have great passing ability. If you're going to have just the 1 holding then great, stick Hargo in. But when there's 2 holding having Hargo was pointless IMO.

Also something you didnt point out. John Terry is nothing more than an average player IMO. I dont rate him 1 bit. For me England CB pecking order should go something like:

Rio, Woodgate, King and then the likes of Terry, Brown etc to fight it out for the 4th spot.

If Capello insists on his 4-2-3-1

Rooney should be playing in the role Gerrard was playing last night.
Gerrard should be on the bench.
2 DMs is excessive especially with our wealth in decent centre backs.
One of Barry / Hargreaves should be paired with Carrick / Lampard so there is some creativity in the middle
Joe Cole is the only decent winger at the moment - Capello has a task on his hands finding another
As for a striker it should be a process of elimination - Crouch isn't up to it, Owen isn't the right sort of striker. Defoe or Bent could be tried. Perhaps there is one out there who suits the role and can make an impact at international level

Yes, terry is terribly average.

Hargreaves is better than Barry, he just looks lost all the time, ah well thats Villas driving force knackered for Saturday though.

Hmmm I'm not sure about this. He looked as though he had a lot more to his game when he was at Bayern and I think Fergie is hoping he will be able to step up a level to the PL. A few things stood out for me last night, no penetration, creativitty, rooney isolated, no pace and few players able to beat a player.
I think the above team would provide england with natural width, pace on the flanks, strong central midfield partnership with creativitty upfront. Joe Cole is good at finding that killer pass and would be a good foil for rooneys.

You're right though, and if not for it i'd have been confident of reaching half time at least at 0-0, could've been a different game. It really was that close, and we were better than they for the first half hour or so no doubt.

That may have been the worst formation ive ever seen. rooney isnt a lone striker never will be it was a too defensive setup. everytime becks got the ball hed look up and have nothing to aim at. were never gonna score goals with that formation.

I along with many prefer 442, but i can see the need for 451/433. but 4231 aint never gonna work goddamit.

That's a very good team on paper but bias must be creeping in if you're putting Upson in ahead of Woodgate or King.

Ledley King is fucked and should no longer play for England as he is unreliable especially if you was to put him in a World Cup squad, Woodgate is also injury prone and again cannot be relied upon

No doubting quality but the last thing England wants when were involved in a tournament is one of the main Centre Backs being out injured

Also Upson has been on top form all season, and played really well for England in the last friendly, the only reason he missed out on this one is he is carrying a slight knock

Just no ideas at all. the players were the same as those used by mclaren, the tactics were the same as under mcclaren, the overall performance was the same as mclaren's teams. so hows anything going to change under tommy cooper ?

No way was it pathetic, that's beyond harsh, we were pressing Fracne right back and had all the territory for the first half hour. And we did have shots on goal too, Becks himself nearly put us in front.

And people better get used to 4-2-3-1 or something similar, 4-4-2 will be a back up IMO. With Carrick in the 2, we'd be better off, whether it be OH or Barry who has to make way.

Give it time people, we'dll be better yet against the Americans.

As long as all the leading players don't bloody drop out that is, wanting to be on a beach early or something.

For me that first one has the lot, and if this messia manager of ours can get them to play well, then england could enjoy some success.
