Even with a deformed penis, talks more sense than ILF

Gael Clichy
What's happened to him?
Just a couple of years ago he looked destined to be the best left back in the world at some point I thought. Quick, very difficult to beat one-on-one, got more interceptions than anyone else in the league, cleaner tackler than any other fullback in the league, a decent cross comparatively, a strong dribble...it was all looking good. But then there was Birmingham(?) in 07/08 and he's just seemed to get gradually worse and worse. He constantly looks ropey, positionally suspect, completely lacking in any self-confidence and consistently making the wrong decision's because of this...and he's just after being the main culprit for Drogba's second goal there because of that - should I go to Lampard to stop the pass or should I get back into position to mark Drogba...I'll do neither and just fanny about halfway between the two. |

It is the result of the whole Arsenal team being under constant construction. Wenger is an idiot persisting on buying too young players ALL THE TIME. How would you feel if you were Fabregas, coming into your prime and the manager is doing nothing to back it up. There are better places for him to be if he wants to win something. A player like Clichy will look better once the team starts getting better as a whole I think.

At fault for both fucking goals. Why the hell did he come off the back post for the first?
Second goal runs to the middle where it was already being covered by 3 others leaving the whole space for Dogbreath to get the ball and run at them. Absolutely shit. |

Clichy's never been that good defensively. He's been at fault for Drogba's two goals today. He hasn't really made much significant progress over the last couple of seasons - he's nowhere near the level of Evra or Cole.

Always been suspect defensively. Always a mistake in him. And in the past few weeks Nani and Anelka have breezed past him so it looks like he's lost some pace too. He's still one of the best attacking fullbacks but well short of an Evra or Ashley Cole who you can generally rely on to put in a performance defensively.

Clichy has been woeful running around like a headless chicken
Traore has looked better but is also brittle Kieran Gibbs, sadly out for the season looks the real deal |

not sure what's worse, moving Gallas into LB position or moving Sol back into the center.

TBF i dont think Clichy got much help from the rest of the team, in the first goal i have no idea why he decided to leave his post - i havent seen it again so he might of seen that it was a 3 on 1 situation at the far post so he went to try and make up bodies. But the second goal blaming him seems harsh, if anything he was tracking his man Anelka but then Vermalin decided to come inside and left Drogba unmarked which meant Clichy had to go over and try to get to him.
Overall i thought he was ok today but overall this season hes been poor - well ever since that Bham game in 2008 |

In the same way that he shouldn't have been labelled as one of the world's best left backs just because of a lack of anyone else and the fact that he played for Arsenal, he shouldn't now be written off completely because he's hit a bad patch. Give him a few months of working hard and he'll probably edge his way back into the overrated category again

It really did look like they were not going to miss Cashley one bit, and I imagined him and Evra vying for the French left-back spot seeing as both seem to offer more than Abidal going forward, and I thought Clichy could only get better.
Fickle footy. I wouldn't write him off just yet, mind. |

Evra has gone through rough patches as well. I can't believe how naive people are in terms of player form. |

Good op Brwned I have noticed this too. I really thought he was going to turn into a turn top, top LB and end up adequetely replacing Ashley Cole by now. He has been very poor of late, to such an extent that I am not surprised this thread was made. One thing that I have noticed is that he seems to have lost a step or two or pace which certainly at this point has to come down to his confidence, but yeah mentally he looks out of it too. I have no idea what happened to him.
