Goal Difference Table

I did this thread in the newbies, and I found it was an interesting way to compare teams across leagues. Everyone with a positive numbers is listed from the big 4.

English teams being ahead a few games in the schedule acts as a handicap for the strength of the league. There are plenty of problems, and the cut-off at 4 leagues is random, complain away!

Ties go to the team that has played less games.

Goal Difference Table

Real - 69
Barca - 62
City - 50
Bayern - 48
United - 47

Dortmund - 42
Milan - 36

Napoli - 22
Arsenal - 22
Spurs - 18
Chelsea - 15
Udinese - 13
------------------------
Stuttgart - 10
Valencia - 9
Lazio - 9
Roma - 7
Sunderland - 5
------------------------
Liverpool - 5
Athletico - 4
Athletic Club - 4
Fiorentina - 4
Atalanta - 4
------------------------
Leverkusen - 3
Malaga - 3
Sevilla - 2

Half the fun is looking at all the teams that are better than Liverpool and Arsenal, if you want a hint.

And look at Gladbach! We should hijack Marco Reus and brainwash him with endless United videos until he thinks he's from Salford.

La Liga & Serie A has just as many games over the season.

Arsenal are missing Wilshere and African players. If you ignore the ridiculous impact on GD from a terrible start to the season, they would be in the third tier there which would be about right at this point.

Liverpool have found their level alright (shocking form from Inter).

The problem with this is that Real and Barca will always be miles ahead up there. It's not a league, it's a head to head race with other teams invited to act as whipping boys and final deciders through the odd upset.

I just meant they're a few games behind in the schedule so the EPL teams have more games to increase their GD. At the end of each season of course it would even out.

I'd like to apply some sort of additional handicap to Real and Barca, but this year I'm not sure it's appropriate.

If it wasn't such a boring idea I'd do something like compare how many goals La Liga teams score against each other, besides Real and Barca, and compare that to how they play against teams from other leagues and get a 'true' value of a La Liga goal.

I don't suppose something like that exists already?
