Guess What... Dos Santos snubbed Utd (yawn)

Quote:
New Tottenham signing Giovani Dos Santos has revealed he turned down Manchester United and Chelsea to sign on the dotted line at White Hart Lane.

The Mexican youngster was a summer signing from Barcelona in a deal which could rise to £8.6 million depending on appearances.

The 19-year-old, who has been hailed as one of the brightest prospects in Europe, claimed he was not prepared to sit on the bench at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.

He said: “My decision is purely sport. I wanted to play more and Tottenham gave me this opportunity.

“I also had good offers from Chelsea, Manchester United and Ajax, but I loved Juande Ramos’ ideas. I am going to do great things with the Spurs."

Dos Santos hopes to hit the ground running whent the new campaign kicks off in August and has backed himself to be a big hit in The Premier League.

He added: "I want to be the star of The Premier League next season. That is my objective and the reason I have left Barcelona for Tottenham.

"I believe that my style of play can be better in England than it is in Spain, but my first challenge will be to adapt to The Premier League.

"The coach Juande Ramos has been key in this move. I spoke with him to know his intentions and I am very excited about this new adventure.

"Juande has said that next season could be very big for Tottenham and that was a big attraction for me."

The Mexican also confirmed that Spurs were keen on bringing his brother Jonathan to North London as part of the deal.

He explained: “Yes (Tottenham wanted to sign my brother), but 'Jona' will stay in Barcelona . It will be a way to keep connected to the club, which has given me so much.”

Lying wee bollox - United weren't that keen, same as Chelsea etc!

United have a history of playing youngsters if theyre good enough, so if he wasnt good enough he wouldnt play - hence why Barca let him go!

What he means is he was waiting for offers from Chelsea or Manchester United and when they didn't show an interest he signed for Spurs

Understandable, that you'd chose Spurs over the current Domestic, and European champions.

Dos Santos: I couldnt break into the team at Barca so there was nothing to say I'd be good enough to make any sort of impact at another top level club so I decided the best thing to do was sign for a bit of a second rate club where my foreign sounding name will make me popular..

It's some sacrifice from him to let his brother, preferably far worse at football, stay at his former club as a sort of reward to them.

Not good enough for any of the elite clubs (Barca or United). He has found his level.

He apparently has a terrible attitude problem, possibly the main reason Barca got rid of him.

You have to laugh at these poor cunts trying to big themselves up. "I was wanted by Man United, so I was, I swear ! Honest ! I really was.....but I turned them down, yeah, that's how crazy-cool I am"

He made 28 appearances for Barca's first team last season - not many 19 year-olds manage that.

I don't know why so many posters are getting hot under the collar. Dos Santos has simply said he thinks he'll get more first team playing time at Spurs than he would have at MUFC or Chelsea and that's why he chose Spurs. All sounds fair enough and very understandable to me.

And if he's such a shit player - which seems to be the reaction of some in this thread to the news that he turned down MUFC - then why were MUFC after him in the first place?

I'd be willing to bet heavily that we were not in for him at all. And for the record, I actually don't think he's that shit, I think it's a good signing for Spurs. What pisses people off (or makes them laugh) is the level of players who say "United wanted me....." when in truth - we didn't !!

How to endear you to your new club's fans.

Rule number 1: Claim you turned down Manchester United to sign for this club

Who knows if we really went in for him, but im convinced he isnt a shit player. Maybe his agent has fed him lies, maybe we enquired and left it at that.

I think some people on here just cant comprehend a player not wanting to join Utd.

OK. But it's simply your belief vs his word:

"I also had good offers from Chelsea, Manchester United and Ajax ....".

That's a very specific statement. If he was just concerned with bigging himself up then why not mention a bigger club than Ajax (Bayern Munich or AC Milan for example)?

I dont think too many are saying he's shit, but neither Chelsea or Utd were in for him, the only other English team I saw him seriously linked with was City.

Players (or their agents rather) get approached all the time by people claiming to represent clubs, without actually doing so.

6m euros plus another 5m euros depending on appearances, making a possible total of £8.75m - that's hardly peanuts for a 19 year-old.

But I guess you must be right - Barca played him in the first team 3 or 4 times, decided he was rubbish, then gave him another 24 appearances just for fun.

Dos Santos wanted regular first team football. He wasn't going to get that next season at Barca and nor would he have got that at MUFC or Chelsea. So he decided to leave Barca and sign for Spurs. Why is that so difficult to understand without trying to explain it away by implying that he's not that good?

Barca actually wanted to loan him out rather than sell him, but dos Santos refused that offer and said that if he left it would be permanent.

I turned down Manchester United to last week because I seem to think Football is not a career for me anymore and my body won't be able to cope.

So I joined the elite I turned down United group.
