Hill-Wood taunts Man Utd: Arsenal finances in better shape
Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists they're in better financial shape than champions Manchester United.
He said: “United have the same constraints as we have. They can’t fit any more into Old Trafford without the fans getting vertigo and not being able to see the game. They have much bigger debts with pretty hefty interest rates, which we don’t. “The Glazers are not in a position to pump a lot more money into United. They haven’t put any money in anyway. They have basically taken it out and not put any back in as far as I can gather.” |

Fans brag about trophies and success, not the financial state of the club. Arsenal haven't won a trophy in over 3 years.....perhaps Peter Hill-Wood should concentrate on using some of these finances on the goal of winning things.

He isn't taunting anyone what he has said in that is true, our finances are in much better shape (£300mill debt fixed at 5.2% compared I think it is £700mill debt on some parts I remember you lot are paying over 10% interest on some). Turnover wise very similar as well.
Haven't the fans here moaned in the past about the Glazers essentially not putting much into the club? Though in the past few years despite that your lot have spent a lot more than us, whether that is down to you having more money in reserve or our board and manager being a bunch of stingy cunts I don't know, personally would go with the stingy cunts theory.... |

This is a misleading thread as well because the full article isn't even posted. When we made our announcement a guy from the press could of asked him his opinion and comparison to Man utd's finances and he probably made this comment. You are right though I don't like it either when people start comparing and all that.

He's a bloke expressing his opinion, he happens to be highly qualified to as a successful Premier League chairman, but even if he wasn't, everyone on this forum expresses opinions on things they are not qualified to.

My finances are in better shape than Manchester United's - and thats saying something.
Truth is Hill-Wood is right, plus we dont know the context of the interview - the way it appears in this thread is that Hill-wood has gone knocking on the media's door to brag how healthy Arsenal are. In reality he could have been asked a question "If United can afford to spend big on player whilst paying debtors, why cant Arsenal", could be a simple as that really. |

He's actually talking to our fans who are saying things like 'we need a big foreign investor' pointing out that most of them are more interested in taking money out of clubs than putting it in.

we have approx £700,000,000 debt... if the inmterest went up 0.5% thats an extra 3.5 million a year to find... realistically as we have been turned down when we tried to refinance i think we could potentially be looking at 2% rise... (this has been the case with some non standard finance companies i work with when they are raising large sums from the city)... that would be about £14,000,000 a year... and thats a decent player a year less we can afford or the wages of 2 or 3 players... if we had our debt fixed at the rates arsenal have we would probably be something like 15,000,000 a year better off... and if we had the same level and debt structure as arsenal we would be probably 30,000,000+ a year better off than we are... i guess thats why hes passing judgement... though i think the glazers will be forced to sell in the next 2 years if they continue to struggle with refinancing options |

Isn't that Philias Fogg looking bloke a Billionaire? Abramovich & these Arab chaps have really affected the way some fans think football clubs should be run.

Man City will be bust in three years or so if that, they can't run a Champions League wage bill with poor attendances and no Champions League football. Arab investors aren't going to want to be losing substantial amounts every year. Man City must have the worst business model imanginable, I don't anybody will be envious of them in a few years.

Arsenal have been banking on making a killing from the re-development of Highbury....the credit crunch has certainly not helped them selling the apartments which will have a knock on effect to the clubs income.
