Ireland's Euro 2012 Journey
As an Ireland fan I am now starting to get excited by the sight of my team in a major tournament again. Of course it is the worst Ireland squad in years, and yes we play negative football, but at least we are there eh! This thread is a preliminary discussion thread about Ireland's chances, potential squad selections etc..
Obligatory fixture picture...

I actually think they could do better than some expect them to. Trappatoni is a fantastic manager, and while his football is bland, he knows what he's doing. He'll keep games tight and make them hard to beat, which is always a good ingredient to have in tournament football to be honest.
I'm looking at the Spain game and I may be crazy, but I could see that being one of the shocks of the tournament. I have a funny feeling that Ireland will do similar to what Switzerland did against them back in 2010. I think they'll do better than a lot think they will. |

Team spirit can count for a lot in tournaments so we might pull off a result or two but I'd be amazed if we get out of the group |

Those Chelsea performances have given me hope that this summer Ireland will be European champions.
Hope for all terrible teams the world over. |

I will be passing your posts on to Trap, Leroy. I will be shocked if they are not pinned to the dressing room wall before the Croatian game. Do not be surprised to see Keith Andrews mention your name in his jubilant post-match interview.

Leroy, you're the one that needs to make the bet sunshine. Go to the bookies, lay 2 grand on Ireland to go out at the group stages and post a pic of you holding your confirmed betting slip. You do that and I'll forever remember you as the man with balls of steel.
Do I think you'll do it, it's not likely tbh. |

A loss to Croatia then a draw with Italy and Spain.
Although I wouldn't be that surprised if we fluked a win against Spain- a la Switzerland in the last World Cup. |

I think we'll get the 4 points we need to go through. we always do well at these tournaments and always punch above our weight. The only time we didn't qualify was at the 88 euros and that was really close. |

I'm sure Katherine Thomas will end up interviewing them in Phoenix Park
"So, Robbie, tell us about that corner you won during the Spain game." |
