Keegan/Toon Watch

With the amount and quality of teams now vying for a 5th-10th place finish, I can see Newcastle ending another season in the bottom half of the table. Even if they spend, I can't see Keegan sorting out their defensive issues, which has been like an achillies heel for every Newcastle team I have watched.

I like Keegan, but I can see this going tits up again.

Newcastle just aren't the team they once were.

This is the official Keegan flop watch thread.

On the Newcastle subject Barton's agent Willie McKay has confirmed that Barton will in no way accept a pay cut from Newcastle

Bolton are trying to get him in on a season long loan with an option to by

If he's clutching at straws he could always claim this is Keegans first season.

I think Keegan will tighten them up and make them a solid team for a bit, they started looking a lot stronger defensively for example. Probably won't give Newcastle fans what they think they deserve but no manager could in fairness.

Nah it won't count against Arsenal. This is a Utd forum, so I fully expect Newcastle to knock you out of both Cups, and beat you at home and away in the league. Arsenal on the other hand, will pip Utd to the tittle by 6 points.

I do wonder what sort of budget will they have. Cost cutting by the chairman over suits is probably not a good sign. Penny pinching, but still paying for Joey Barton's wages? Is he still in jail by the way?

They have a decent squad, but still require a bit more quality and quantity. Keegan started off poorly, but started getting some good results. Anythings possible, but funding is required.

Wonder what are Marching's thoughts on the funding that is available and the "cost cutting" methods by the owner.

It's all guess work what is going on behind the scenes at most clubs and that includes Newcastle.

My understanding is that Ashley is taking a more hands on approach and Mort is stepping down as Chairman with Derek Llambias taking over. As for cost cutting, you don't get as rich as Ashley by not running your companies properly. So that will include taking a look at all costs related to NUFC...the media will pick up daft examples like players suits but then ignore large investments behind the scenes such as a flashy new Leazes end bar, increased/improved capacity for families and other ground changes/improvements.

I do know Ashley is serious about wanting to win something at Newcastle so I would imagine that, coupled with his wealth, will mean Keegan won't be short of funds.

Theres a lot of Talk of Shay Given Jumping ship with Arsenal looking a likley destination. he'd be a big loss to Newcastle in my opinion.

Great goalie although injuries are getting more frequent which is a concern.

His current contract runs until June 2011 though.

From what I've heard, Mike Ashley and Wise picks the team and tactics, then lets Keegan tell the players.

Newcastle need to make a good few changes to the team I think.
Get rid of Barton, he's shit. Viduka too
Bring in a good striker thats different to Owen and Martins
Couple of defenders needed, especially with Rozenhal and Carr gone.
Duff isn't all that, so try and make N'Zogbia understand he' should stay.
If Milner goes then there goes the creative part of their team.
They needs some younger stars and not just rely on likes of Butt, Geremi

It remains to be seen what future Barton has at Newcastle...shame really as he has finally been playing well.

Viduka is likely to hang on until his v lucrative contract is up in 2009.

I doubt anyone will even notice Carr has gone, he was truly crap. Milner or Zog will leave sooner or later - I just wish it was later as both have a great future in the game.

Butt had a good season but his age will start to catch up with him soon....Duff needs a run of games to show he still has the appetitte for the game.

It will be interesting to see who comes in.

Hats off to Ceks!

I've always thought it was Mike Ashley.

Just remembered this thread.

I wonder whether he'll go back for a third stint, or not.

Ceks, your location is bollocks. When I lived in London I saw Wenger touching himself to the sight of 12 year old lads in speedos at the Kensington Leisure Centre all the time. He wore shades and a wig but everybody knew it was him.
