Now all they need is Steve McMahon, Craig Johnston and John Barnes.

Hodgson had to go. Surprised it took as along as it did.

But the appointment of Dalglish smacks of a fan-pleasing exercise from the new owners.

Yeah. Its something like what Mike Ashley did when he brought in Keegan.

I'm fairly pleased with the turn of events in that sense. Seems like the new owners are arse kissers.

This just adds more spice to the tie and guarantees we will go all out to win it.. can't see Fergie wanting to go easy on 'King Kenny'.

Meh.

The squad is still upper-mid-table level, at best. Liverpool's main problem wasn't Hogdson, it was the team as a whole. Dalglish isn't going to change that.

But this worked out so well for King Kev at Newcastle. Maybe Liverpool will be smart enough to bring Dennis Wise on board.

Surprised hes been appointed before tomorrow's game, wouldn't have thought they'd want his first game to be getting hammered by their biggest rivals.

Not really. Given the unplanned nature of this personnel change, its not as though there will be suitable replacements available right now. I would guess that NSV will now consult extensively before making a shortlist of appropriate new managers.

That lost might include Dalglish, but the current arrangement, that he is in charge til the end of the season works well for them. Either he succeeds, when they can then appoint him full time (and take the credit) or he does not do well enough, in which case, he can be eased out without loss of face as Woy will still be blamed for shambolic performance this season.

Im genuinely surprised that Benitez was not appointed. It would ot have surprised me in the slightest if he had been reappointed. Perhaps he was offered the same 'til the end of the season and lets see' type deal but turned it down for prides sake. I cant believe that is Rafa was offered the job back as a full time appointment, that he would have turned it down.

Benitez at Liverpool under singular strong ownership would be interesting. Or perhaps NSV have concluded that he incapable of working with club owners and just not worth the trouble.

According to Phil Neal this morning, this isn't a factor at all. Neal claimed that Dalglish has been closely following the game for years and knows how to get the best out of Liverpool's players.

I think it's a silly, fan pleasing exercise by the owners if you ask me. I would have made sure I had a manager to come in who is currently in the game and working his magic i.e. Owen Coyle or even someone who has recently been in the game like Martin O'Neil.

Dalglish is one hell of a risk to take, Ian Rush is supposed to be confirmed as his assistant later today as well

I like that they're re-hiring a manager who left the first time around because the pressure was too much for him and who has since failed wherever he's been. [EDIT: Since he left Blackburn]

He might be a success but this is a decision based on emotion and those can easily go wrong.

desperate appointment...but Liverpool were in desperate straits.

day to day management is a huge deal and he has been away for so long.

The first match against United will be a huge motivation and they will raise their game. But the matches against the Blackburns and the Stokes will be where we will see what he can do.

A very exciting day has just been raised a notch.

i reckon they'll beat us tomorrow, but i think they'll still drop tons of shit points in the league which is more harmful in the end.

he's the only other manager besides fergie, wenger, JM and ancelotti that's won the prem (blackburn). definitely didn't fail after leaving liverpool.

Blackburn won by the skin of their teeth after spending big, after which the Blackburn team fell apart and was soon relegated - He (king fuckin kenny) also inherited the liverpool team that won him things and when he needed to make changes and take the club forward he bailed out because he is a useless manager long term - IMO - I hope the scousers that have shouted for him are given what they deserve and suffer more under kenny than they have done under roy - hoping that kenny will lead them back to the heady heights is more proof that the scouse cnuts are bigger straw clutchers than a scarecrow trying to have a wank!!!!

He brought Blackburn out of the second div and then won the league a few years later. He brought them to fourth the first year they were promoted.
After winning the league he stepped down as mgr. He wasn't a failure...christ.
Newcastle first year-runner up in prem then shearer got injured.
Not a bad short time fix. Atmosphere will be electric tomorrow for the KING

I don't think he was brought into the job long term. Have a few big wins(hopefully tomorrow), get the support back, get the big players to have hope and not leave, and finish the season with some dignity.
Crafty move by the owners, and the timing of course before meeting you lot was predictable.

more a desperate move...agree it has to be short term.

depending on how this turns out, it will be seen as brilliant or just...........desperate.

The players will be motivated for sure...but as I said the day to day management will be the real challenge.

Very quick to defend him without reading through properly....christ!!

I reiterate - did well with Blackburn after spending big then leaving as he couldn't see how he could do the same again - same with liverpool after his inherited team started getting older...
Shearer getting injured - was he the only player...
Short term fix - stated he was crap long term manager in general, nothing about short term fix

Agree atmosphere will be electric - but for the match, not just for kenny!

He was the only man for the job at the moment. Hopefully not a long term appt.

I'm quite pleased about this. I was starting to feel sorry for them (a little tiny bit) now with Dalglish & Rush it makes it easy to fukin hate em again. Normal service resumed...gobshites living in the past.

I remember how dippers fans were when we were relegated, would be fcukin sweet if their messiah takes them down!
