Amazing stat in there about only 20% of Xavi's La Liga passes last season going forward.

yeah, but the it's all about ball retention with Barca and the 20% that does go forward is incisive.

One rebel president has suggested clubs play their youth sides against Madrid and Barca if the big two don’t agree to negotiate the next TV deal with the other 18 clubs.

If all 18 teams did that, especially with head-to-head goal-difference in Spain, Madrid and Barca’s campaigns would be reduced to two-games-a-season affairs. All their other fixtures would be completely irrelevant – try selling that to a global TV audience.
Done, sort it out you not-so-weak Spanish clubs.

I reckon the bottom half of the championship would lose by fewer goals a lot of the time, just because they'd approach the game differently.

The fundamental difference between the PL and La Liga is the attitude lower sides have towards playing the top teams - the only time a ground is full in Spain is when one of the big two come to visit, and it turns into a bit of a procession. The fans expect their side to have a go, and consequently they don't defend in huge numbers and hit on the counter attack as is what you really have to do. No side in Spain has emulated how Chelsea played them a couple of years ago, which in my view, was just about spot on.

In fact, United v Arsenal the other week was strikingly similar to so many games La Liga churns up every week. Obviously we were the inferior side due to the loss of our two best players and multiple injuries, but we played as if we were your equals, which was obviously not the case. Hence we got battered, whereas if we'd accepted that on that day, we were going to field the inferior team in terms of talent, and created our tactics accordingly, the score would never have been so high.

The youth playing against Madrid and Barca will probably get the same results as the first teams. 6-0 thrashings

Probably. In fact when they put out 10 defenders and only lose 3-0, a few of those teams might go "hang on a minute".

I shall watch Madrid/Getafe after the United game has finished. What's the betting they will score 7 this week?

Barca
Starting XI:
Valdes - Dani Alves, Fontas, Busquets, Adriano - Xavi, Keita, Thiago - Alexis Sanchez, Pedro, Fabregas

Fantastic starting XI

Spoiler
Bench: Pinto, Puyol, Abidal, Mascherano, Iniesta, Villa, Messi

Poor bench

11 minutes in and Barca are two up - Xavi and Fabregas. I think it's safe to say that the international break hasn't upset them.

And it continues.

No Messi (I think) and Barca still 2 up away to Sociedad in 8 mins.

Fabregas scores...yet again.

Barcelona with 76% possession. Equal amount of shots.

And Messi on straight away.

What's happening in La Liga? Are they trying to drop points after the protests from the rest?

He went down easily, most players would do the same thing in similiar circumstances. Messi I'm talking about

Thought he was going to card Coentrao there. Didn't find that to be much of a foul.

Dives, laughs it off, tells ref he'll make a proper effort next time. Usual La Liga then.
