The Last Man Standing Game

The Premise is simple: Pick a winner each week.

Rules.
Spoiler
Basics:
1) Each round you must select 1 Premier League team who you think will win that week for both games.
2) You may not pick a team you have already picked in your current winning run. (Each game's run is separate)
3) In hard, a draw or a loss for your pick resets your picks and your score to 0. In easy, only a loss for your pick resets your picks and your score to 0, whilst you may not use your pick again, the same as if you had won. Only a win gets you a point.

Furthermore:
4) After 8 winning games, the first team you picked becomes available, (your first pick is available on the 9th game, 2nd pick on the 10th game etc).
4)Missing a week has the same effect as your team losing, it resets your score to 0 and resets your picks
5) Weeks will usually end on Friday at 6pm unless I say otherwise. It makes it a lot easier for me than doing it at Saturday at noon or something.
6) Not all weeks will start and end on a Friday, some may end on Wednesday , especially during Christmas. (or any other day)
7) If a team plays twice during the week (when most other Premier League teams don't), then you with have the choice of two games to pick from. If you do not specify the first game will be presumed to have been chosen.
8) In hard, to pick Arsenal that week simple write "Hard: Arsenal", or if Arsenal are playing against two teams that week, write "Hard: Arsenal vs [the team]". Likewise for easy: "Easy: QPR vs [the team]" or just "Easy: QPR"
9) You can edit your choice up to the deadline, at which point the picks will be multi quoted.
10) A "Bye-week" has been introduced in case you forget. This can be used deliberately in a "hard week" or in case you forget. You only get 1 per "game" and it does not shorten your time before you get your picks back.
11) There may be more rules I haven't thought of.
12) In above, Bold = ongoing - - - * = my mistake, free bye

Example:
Quote:
Hard: Arsenal
Next Week: Manchester United
Week After: Chelsea

Easy: QPR
Next Week: Newcastle
Week After: Stoke City
It is very useful to keep at least on week ahead in case you forget! Use it!

Your highest score will remain as a highest score. Aka, go on an 8 game run, and it will go on the "high scores" bit in the original post. Can you go on a legendary unbeatable 12 game winning run?

If I was cool I'd have replied to that: Then why do you bother watching football. But I'm not cool.

i mean even even if you manage to pick each game on 60% average winning chance. to win 12 you only have 0,3%. its just too improbable. It cant be done.

Really? I don't think setting the bar at 8 wins to start getting your choices back is that hard, on most days a few games will have winners that could be predicted with an 80% probability (a good team vs a bad team shall we say), then you have a few teams who will go on losing streaks every now and again, obviously you need a bit of luck.

I could do it so that a draw keeps your score whilst a loss resets it to 0, but that is a lot more work on my account (well slightly more work).

thats a good idea. You could do it like in baseball. 2 times you can draw and keep the points but 3rd draw is a strike and counts like a loss and u rest. terrific idea , dude.

Did you get any of your picks back, or where your choices unlimited or neither?

I'd prefer you to stick them in the thread like the Line-ups game does, unless those bumps are too annoying

No, we'd to pick a different team every week, which is usually the case for this game.

On the other hand, with the same rules we've also had competitions lasting only a couple of weeks.

You need a pool of 350 players to make it statistically probable that a man can reach 13th week.

With the amount of people that should be involved, you should get people surviving after 8-12 weeks easily. I've seen people go up to week 13 in NFL and that's harder to pick imo and that was with only about 20 people in.

I think it's slightly different, but yeah, they way I've done it is, we started with like 30 people, pick a winner and go onto the next week, lose and your done, the next week pick a new team, if they win, continue, and so....can get cut down very quickly when say Chelsea draw with a West Brom at home or something.

Speaking of Chelsea.....I'm going to go ridiculously safe for this week, and pick them.

I think we'll keep the rules as they are Valentino, the reason being, even if it is frustrating, a low score of say 8 is something for people to aim at, whereas if someone gets a score of say 20 it might put people off.

getting through 7 weeks of consistent success and loosing all of it on 8th just because stupid liverpool drew vs west brom at home may put some people off

That's the point of the game. And usually when a top side draws/loses at home is the best, since it's when the most people will drop off....it's about avoiding banana skins.

We'll find out in week 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 up to 20 if somebody manages to fluke getting 20 in a row, when I assume they can get to choose every team all over again, so could continue their streak.

Well alrite then, even better. Someone should easily be able to continue a streak until the end of the season.

Yeah but using the same Maths would say Chelsea winning this weekend is like 50/50.....whereas it's more like 98% Chelsea win, 1.9% Draw, 0.1% Swansea win.

And when you can repeat after 8 weeks, yeah getting a 20+ streak from someone is probably going to happen.

no. i assumed that every pick has on average 70% chance to win in that math. and IMO chelsea is more like 85% rather than 98.

I wouldn't mind trying to update two at once, Easy and Hard, easy where draws don't do anything, Hard where the draws make you lose so your vote would go like this:

Quote:
Easy: Newcastle
Next Week: Manchester United

Hard: Arsenal
Next Week: Chelsea
But that is probably too hard for the caf to keep in mind for that long . Doing both is obviously twice as much work, but I don't think it will be anywhere near as hard as sorting out the line ups would be. Would it be too much?

That's actually rather easy. Add up game scores, insert score to spread sheet. Copy past scores.

I'm not sure I understand the rules though (may be because I read them in a hurry)...

Quick question: How many points would I get and what are the consequences on my score if:

1- Chelsea win United win.
2- Chelsea win United draw.
3- Chelsea win United lose.
4- Chelsea draw United win.
5- Chelsea draw United draw.
6- Chelsea draw United lose.
7- Chelsea lose United win.
8- Chelsea lose United draw.
9- Chelsea lose United lose. (I'm pretty sure I'm f***ed up in this scenario)

???

You can't choose United 2 times, unless you've played 8 times.

So i'd check the schedule if i were you.
