Le Arse claiming they are bigger than United

Arsenal a Bigger Draw than Manchester United
Thursday 25 Sep 2008 14:20:47 by Daniel Wakely

A less than capacity crowd at the Emirates on Tuesday night still outnumbered those who saw Man United’s all premiership Carling Cup tie at Old Trafford.

56,000 almost filled the Emirates for the game against Sheffield United while three thousand less were at Old Trafford on the same night. Perhaps more worrying for the Manchester outfit is that tickets were on general sale for the game against Bolton this Saturday, it is believed to be the first time they have ever put tickets on general sale in the history of the premier league. Whilst financial uncertainty is undoubtedly a factor in faltering interest, the red half of Manchester’s ticket pricing for the Carling Cup is a little farcical.

Tickets at Old Trafford ranged from £26 to £48 for adults for the game against Middlesbrough whereas our adult tickets were priced either £10 or £20. Ferguson frequently bemoans the wealthy London clubs for charging extortionate ticket prices but perhaps he should look a little more closely to home where no concessions are made for a competition that features only half of the first team. It is a simple case of supply and demand; we charge substantially more for Premiership games, particularly category A fixtures where ticket prices can rise to £94 for games against our closest rivals but decrease prices for those games with less interest.

Perhaps Manchester United would do well to follow our lead by filling their stadium and increasing match day revenue; a factor that has led to our rapidly increasing wealth. Part of their global appeal is the fact that Old Trafford is always full and the scarcity of tickets only goes to increase their reputation. When fans in Asia start seeing empty seats the mystery will vanish as they see a club that is apparently losing popularity in its own country. Filling a stadium is a vital tool in building a global brand and is undoubtedly the reason why we settled on the 60,000 capacity at the Emirates rather than a 70,000 capacity which may not have sold out for every single game.

Wasn't it Middlesborough who refused to lower the ticket prices, therefore ensuring that we too were unable to? Did the Arsenal fan that wrote that then see the away support?

Yes.

And they probably weren't even at the game.

Gooners.

Arsenals ticket pricing is the biggest disgrace in the premier league.

It even makes ours look half decent.

You have to pay between 45-95 pounds for the majority of seats.

What bewilders me is how they consistently get away with this.

I fuckin' hate the Emirates.

It's not a football stadium, it's a theatre.

Hopefully not all modern stadiums will go that way.

I remember seeing their stadium half empty last season in a Premiership match the following week after we beat them at OT in April.

Cuntish ungrateful fans.

The reason that tickets have just gone on general sale for the Bolton game aside the £50 corporate crap is that Bolton have only sold 1800 of their allocation so united have just put them on sale, after all it is already thursday so i am sure they will al be sold, its a disgrace that we charged full price for the carling cup, but i am also sure that if the Arse had followed the same pricing policy that the Emirates would have also been half full, we might be loyal football fans but i am sure there are limits to what some people can afford.

No one involved with either Arsenal or Chelsea has any right to criticise another team's ticket pricing. They may be London clubs, but fucking hell do they rip the piss out of their own fans.

Not sure where the article is claiming that Arsenal are bigger than United mind.

Also, not sure when this article was written exactly, but last I checked the Bolton game was sold out.

The Bolton game originally sold out to members a couple of weeks ago.

Then a week before the game unsold hospitality tickets at around £50 were offered to members and then on general sale. The same process happened numerous times last season. Those unsold hospitality tickets in the quadrants sold out today.

Our matchday revenue is also higher than Arsenal's and if the prices had been lower against Boro the club would have lost money.

So all in all its a terribly inaccurate article.

Its a ridiculous article written by an idiot. Most fanzine writers are to be fair.

It's good that Arsenal were only charging 5 and 10, good for the club to get the tickets sold and for the fans who get good prices. But the usual prices are pretty steep as I understand it.

I would prefer to see stadiums sold out even if the prices have to be cut or tickets given away to youngsters.

As for the article, the guy sounds like a right twat.

I thought nobody was going to point this out.

So for you guys an article written by fans = the views of Arsenal Football Club? I bet The Sun is behind the title of this thread.

Games against the likes of Boro and Charlton were also on general sale, towards the end of the 05 season, as I recall. Typical media bullshit, trying to make out as if United are entering into some sort of crisis.

Brace yourself mate. The media are salivating at the thought of United having a real crisis. It is only our continued success that frustrates them.
Can you picture the press gushing about us like they do Arsenal if we had won fuck all for three seasons. And yes, I am paranoid

These must be the Liverpool and Chelsea games. Any idea how much they charge for games against us?

United and Liverpool are the big ones over here; Chelsea is probably equal with Arsenal which speaks to the recent growth over in the states; I am sure there are a lot of people over here who only watch the Champions League
