League of Ireland 2011
kicked off last week
my home team, Derry City, kicked off with a 1-0 loss to Sligo, watched by 4000. They have added some quality (at that level) to their squad with the return of McGlynn and the addition of Zayed. Greacan, the big Scot, in from Morton will be an interesting signing. However, I think that the loss of Mark Farren to long term injury will mean that Derry will struggle to score goals. The squad is relatively small, with it beefed up by youth players, i expect them to hover around mid-table. |

Zayed is a waster, no replacement for Farren. I think Derry could challenge for third though gb, they've got some quality players like McEleaney and McClean, if those lads take to the premier you'll be going places.
The two Rovers are nailed on for the top two spots imo but basically any one of Derry, Pat's, Bohs or Dundalk could take 3rd spot. As for the First Division, its between Shels, Waterford, Cork and Limerick realistically for promotion. Monaghan have lost most of their best players and their manager, and now Roddy is in charge. We really should win the division with the squad we've put together, but it's Shels so...who knows.

Took me frickin' ages to find a table of either the Premier Division or Division One via google. I dunno whether that says more about the league or my googling skills.

Before I gave up the LOI, I was at Turner's Cross for Cork City v UCD. UCD brought four fans. One of them drummed incessantly for 90 minutes whilst the other three sat faintly embarrassed by the whole thing.

Ryan Guy's left Sligo hasn't he ? Gone back to the States ?
He'll be a big loss to the league. |

I went to the Galway Utd, St. Pats match myself on Friday night, i have to say the three nil scoreline flattered St. Pats a good bit, Galway Utd played some good football & on the night were by far the best attacking side, i was actually taken aback at some of their attacking play, extremely shaky in defence though, i hope they sort that out, next up Dundalk away & then back home again to face UCD.

Rovers are massive favourites, probably fair enough given the quality of the league. Rovers arent exactly the greatest champions Ive ever seen though. Alot of talk about Sligo going well this year.
Bohs had a good result last week all things considered. Rovers 4/5 Sligo 3/1 Dundalk 10/1 Derry 15/1 16/1 Bar......... |

Heh, then Pats go and do the same thing on Friday to Dundalk.
Tomorrow I'll be watching the preliminary round of the EA Sports Cup (the league cup) against FC Carlow. Such is the life of a Shels supporter. So go on then, how many have been to a game so far? |

I know & i was disappointed i couldn't go to it too, that win was coming though, despite the results Galway Utd were playing lovely football in the games prior to the Bohs game. The Sligo Rvs game is just a round the corner now, i'm looking forward to that, might even see moses at it!

Lots of talk from Bohs that Nutsy is walking, He's just sorting out the money he is owed then he's on his bike. Best of look to him, always think he gets an unfair rap, he's a good manager and was dicked over by Bohs last season when he had a chance of a good job ( Bohs dicked themselves over too at the same time though). Bohs are in a bad way

Gary Twigg scored for Shamrock Rovers, continuing on from last season's great form.
