Leeds watch 2011/12

The Elland Road league campaign starts with Middlesbrough on Saturday August 13 and ends with a visit from Leicester City on Saturday April 28.

So what? Many of you may think.

But the last time - and maybe the only time - we entertained Middlesbrough first up and Leicester in our final home league game, we went on to clinch promotion under Howard Wilkinson in 1990.

Spooky!

Going into the season with 0 first team goalkeepers, a strategy just so bizarre, it may have you down by November.

Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has claimed that he never asked to leave the club.

Boss Simon Grayson said it was "going to be difficult" to agree a new deal with Schmeichel after Leeds accepted an offer from Leicester City on Monday.

But on his Twitter account, Schmeichel said: "I want to put on record that I have never asked to leave Leeds United.

"Nor did I reject an offer of a new contract, since one was never put to me," the Dane added.

Upon announcing the news of their acceptance of Leicester's offer, Leeds manager Simon Grayson said: "We feel this is the right deal for the club.

"We spoke to Kasper's agent at the end of the season about a contract extension and it was apparent that it was going to be difficult."

But Schmeichel, who has a year left on his current deal, said: "It is with great disappointment that I have learned that Leeds United have accepted an offer from Leicester.

"I was enjoying being a Leeds United player and was looking forward to winning promotion this season with the club," he said.

"I have spoken to the manager Simon Grayson and he has made it clear to me, that, in spite of having played well for him, this is something he believes is a good deal for Leeds United.

"I have been put in a very difficult situation and will spend some time considering my options for my future."

It does seem Grayson had already decided on bringing in a new keeper to "tighten up our defence" which he said had been leaking goals last season....all very true BUT it was Kasper that was responsible for keeping even more goals out!

All this depends on who exactly is coming in but I am really sorry to see the lad go! More than sorry actually...pissed off!

Montgomery of Sheff United? I'm sure he's signed a new deal with them.

I'd swop you for Paynter...useless lump! (Paynter not you) (Or maybe both of you)

I'd rather keep playing within the amateurs league than your lot!

Yeah I think he had signed a contract not that long ago but I think they're looking to cash in on him given they've gone down to League One.

Marching what is your opinion on Sanchez Watt? How well do you think he did at Elland Road and do you think he can make it at a higher level in the game?

Will be a tough one and we need to get some decent players in to replace those leaving and to give us some depth too to take care of injuries etc. Defence let us down last season so no doubt that is Grayson's priority...I have no faith in Paynter and McCormack is very hit and (mostly) miss so Becchio needs support badly....hope to see more of Somma this season.

If MU saw something in him then he should be good enough for us.

I'm still disappointed to see Kasper go

He always looked lively when he played but he got injured a couple of times if I remember rightly which kept him out. Always fought his way back into the side though. Like to see him back at ER although not sure how he'd do in the Arse 1st team...still young though.

Ouch, nasty injury that'l mean he'll get the rest of the Somma off then.......

Much transfer activity Marching ? Is you optimistic or are your sights getting lower by the day ?

I reckon play-offs at least for Leeds

Seems to have been plenty of outgoings with not a lot coming in....we did talk to Bowyer and it seemed he was coming only for his fecking family to want to be nearer London.

Other teams seem to have been buying well and with the teams going down being fairly strong it might be a struggle this season.

You may have dodged a bullet with Bowyer Marching.... I reckon he's just picking pay packets up now, his best days are well behind him....sure Master Bates will get his cheque book out soon, plenty of time left yet.

Lost 3-1

Paddy hasn't played for 18 months and O'dea and Lonegran hardly know the rest of the lads so maybe the defence will take a little while to gel...BUT, we won't do very well if we are depending on McCormack and Paynter to put the ball in the net.

Local lad whose thought very highly of....had a loan spell at Oldham (I think) and now back at Elland Road with a first team squad number. Done really well and will be a useful player to have. Republic of Ireland have noticed his skills too...being selfish, I hope he doesn't get too many call ups though.

What made you ask?
