Seriously though, Cal, you should just stop looking at Messi as some rival to your loverboy the whole time and just appreciate what an awesome player he is. |

Anyway, I just want to point out how ludicrous some of the people on this very thread sound creaming themselves over Messi's scoring record this season. Exactly 12 months ago, I was repeatedly told scoring multiple goals against the lesser lights of La Liga meant fuck all once the title has gone, funny how 12 months changes everything? Now scoring 7 goals after Madrid has sealed the title is some kind of miracle? |

This absolute determination to undermine Messi...it's impressive!
Can't understand it, though. Must admit, I'm pretty much what many would call a 'fanboy' for Messi...but it's understandable. Though Iniesta and Xavi are a delight to watch, I'll watch the Barcelona games just because he's playing. Although I want Barcelona to lose whenever they play, I sure as hell want to see Messi play well. He is a joy to watch, and we'll probably never see anyone like him again. To not enjoy watching him play (which you surely cannot do if you're so obsessed with pitting him against Ronaldo, or trying to undermine his performance) is to miss out on one of the greatest delights and joys in football minus anything to do with your own club, isn't it? Again, that goal for his hattrick yesterday was absolutely mental. It was weird in that you knew he was going to pull it off, but it didn't make it any less ridiculous when it went in. |

It shows the extent of your argument when you resort to penalties. I could make an argument for Darren Bent being better than Messi based in penalties. Ronaldo missed one for us in the CL final as well, very nearly cost us. He obviously bottles them when they mean the most.

I'm not going to either - I remember Hectic giving out pretty obvious warnings to anyone who did, so I'm keeping my mouth tightly shut here! What I will say, and it's obviously been said a million times, is that talking of Messi just in terms of goals is so reductive that it seems somewhat absurd. He could score half as many and still have a valid claim to being the greatest footballer of all time, I'm guessing. |

Messi is the only reason Barcelona went past Milan in the first place.

you should know that when mourinho decides who will shoot -as most coaches- he puts his best shooters first and last, so the other shooters wont feel that much preasure but there goes ronaldo and misses and messi is scoring shitloads of goals after real madrid won la liga? real madrid won it this wednesday, so i don't know what you are talking about and of the 72 goals messi scored this season, 16 (all time record) were in the champions league |

This thread has gone completely retarded again. The third goal from last night:
Edit: I see you've already done the honours, Homeomorphic. Cracking goal.

, it's not as if he should feel lucky to play for them. He's a key component of their last success in these last few years.I can stoop to your stupid level of logic if you want, R.Madrid will have accomplished a better general season than Barca and yet Messi still manages to outclass and out perform you-know-who |

Messi missed one that would put them in the final. Ronaldo had his saved that would have put them ahead in a shootout, but based on the fact that Kaka & Ramos missed soon after, they'd likely have gone out anyway.

If he scored, maybe the rest of the players would have been more confident with their own penaltys. Considering he was the first taker and all, always good to get off to the best possible start but no, he missed.

so even if we disregard the fact that ronaldo missing the first penalty had a huge impact in torres and kaka mental state, they would have been tied in penalties scored it's not the first time you "conveniently" forget things

Insane first touch. And that praise coming from someone like Nesta means a lot more than anything we humble posters could ever say about the matter. I really enjoyed their battle over the 4 games, it was great to watch. I'd say they were pretty even most of the time, but some of Messi's runs and assists in those games were unreal. Still remember that karate kick from Nesta and how he just accepted the yellow Class both of them.
