Well if he has a mare then there's no way UEFA will take him on again.

I must admit at first I saw the handball but didn't think it was a pen as his arm was by his side. I can only assume Atkinson was of the same opinon.

However, upon review he twists and leans into the ball with his arm so should have been a pen.

Wrong decision but not as poor a decision as many are making out.

He leant into the ball but had his arms in front of his body so no pen.

Yeah, I don't think it was a terrible decision... I think other refs might well have come to the same conclusion too. Still doesn't change the fact that Atkinson is one of the worst in the league.

Fun fact... he was the "special guest celebrity" who turned on this years Christmas Lights in the West Yorkshire village of Drighlington... celebrity!

Doesn't matter Pete. He deliberately played the ball with his arm. It doesn't matter where his arms are. As we both observed, he leant into it so there's no questioning the intention.

Bolded part is the key.

I was watching the 07-08 season review again. In in our FA cup round 6 we lost 1-0 to Portsmouth, there was an incident. Ronaldo receives a ball on the right wing and runs to the box, and Distin comes across him, putting his leg through Ronaldo's legs and shoulder barges him, inside the box. Nothing was given.

Fucking Martin Atkinson..

Didn't give a yellow to this "tackle" either. No attempt to play the ball and stopping an attack.

Don't feel aggrieved for them, they're a dirty team, but bad reffing is annoying to see in any PL game. Atkinson is a shite ref, and we've been victim to that on a number of occasions. A Stamford Bridge trip a couple of years ago being the stand out in my memory.

Teams losing by bad decisions rather than performances is bad for the league. It can never be completely eroded, but I can't believe we can't improve from where we are at now.

It's a bit ironic, that most United fans remember him for not sending Luiz off, when he's in fact known to give very odd red cards.

I didn't see him complaining about home town decisions when Foy delivered a referring masterpiece in our game!

The thread title should probably be changed to 'Referees-What the fuck?'. We need to get more help to these incompetent buffoons.

Pulis comments after the Spurs game.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis: "Let's not talk about the referee, let's talk about the football. We got a little bit of luck but you can't fault our players, they really deserved their luck"

He got the big decision in the game right, but he still is a poor referee who'll most likely fuck up in the next game.

He was good, did well not to crumble and start giving them everything once the home crowd got on his back for no real reason.

Disallowing Spurs' goal was a terrible decision. Bias on the Caf? No way! If he'd have taken that goal off of us you'd all be flying off the walls. Just because his big mistake cost the opposition, not us, doesn't mean he had a good game.

I think juggling the ball with your hands and using it to control it for you to finish is a hand ball. But I'm weird like that.

It was clear handball, are you blind?

Good refereeing, but it was easy game, it would be awfull if he messed it up.

Were it anyone else I'd be inclined to say it was a harsh call to disallow the goal but given it was Adebayor and he has previous and spent much of the match trying to catch the ball, I'm not so sure.

It was a hard decision and i think had it gone either way there would be debate about it. My view? He gained a unfair advantage using his hand, deliberate or not he did so chalking it off was the right call

The laws of the game are open for public viewing, give them a look. Handballs have to be intentional. Adebayor instinctively pulls his body back, the ball hits his body and it bounces the best part of one yard from his body to his arm. If you're suggesting that, in the midst of a reflex action and with the ball covering a single yard, Adebayor deliberately used his arm to drop the ball in front of him then that's your prerogative.

I respectfully disagree.

Tough one to call but his body movement was peculiar. He moved his hands in toward where the ball was moving. He did again a few minutes later. He must be very unlucky to handle the ball so often.

I'm perfectly aware on how the laws are. The intentional part is there so defenders aren't punished when the attacker is crossing, shooting or is standing close to the and lifts the ball forward so it hits the hand. Attackers generally are at fault when their hand connects with the ball unless they're standing perfectly still inside the box and the ball ricochets onto their arm.

He's terrible, i don't think Adebayor could do much about it, sort of like giving that penalty against Richards for City?

Also there were about 3 challenges in the first half and he managed to give a yellow for two which were hardly that bad at all... he's wierd.
