MLS - TFC Specifically
I went to my first tfc game last night and I must say I had a fucking blast.
![]() ![]() ![]() The atmosphere was great and non-stopping singing and chanting throught the whole game. I was singing and chanting so much that I've lost my voice today, not to mention the massive hangover I have. I'm definitely getting season tickets next season. The quality of the football on the pitch is horrible to be honest but the atmosphere more than makes up for it in my opinion. My question is are the atmosphere at all mls games like this or is it only like at toronto because if they are it is definitely worth it to go out and watch some games. |

Sorry you had to go on a day where the standard of play was league 2 level
.The supporters of TFC are fantastic. Most other MLS teams don't have the same kind of spirt with a few notable exceptions. We jsut like to make noise. |

hey Doc and GA, how do you guys feel about the argos possibly moving into bmo field. I heard tfc supporters will be wearing black for the argos game (off the rpb link doc game, thanks again doc). You think that would ruin the atmosphere if they moved in and we had those lines and fucking annoying numbers all over the field?

Go to a big NHL playoff game or virtually any game in the NFL or any big college basketball or football game. More noise at these than just about any sporting event out there. Your ignorance is annoying and Im not even American.

Noise doesn't define the atmosphere. I agree with what you said for the most part though - just have to look at the Montreal Canadiens playoff run to see what kind of atmosphere can be had at these matches....even though they were singing ole, and got made fun of by the media for it.

TFC games are fucking great! i was in toronto last year when they were playing the Fire and while im not any sort of Fire fan all my favorite teams are from Chicago cuz i was born there (Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks etc.) i always figured if i was gonna support any MLS team it'd be the Fire but ive got way too much respect for the TFC fans, they were in excellent voice and i found my self chanting "fuck Chicago, fuck fuck Chicago" with the rest of the TFC fans. and they get a special shout out for singing "we sing better than your wife" to Beckham
closet united fans, the lot of 'em |

As for the argos moving in - no chance. Would take major reno to accommodate the CFL field and the argos have no money. The planned protest at the all-star game is unnecessary. It should be a celebration of football and not spoiled over something that will never happen. |

LAst nights game was amazing atmo. One of the best I been too and I been to 5 games. The best was when we started chanting "Tic Tac Taberknack, Fuck the Impact"
The MTL goalie got so pissed by the crowd, that he got a yellow. Going tommorow's all star game and can't wait for that. Anyone got any anti-West Ham chants? |

As for MLS atmospheres, I can say I've seen some good stuff from the DC United fans here. I think dcred (if he's still around?) could say more, but there is certainly some decent noise from sections of the crowd. I remember the disturbing 3 minute chant of "fuck you Beckham" at the LA match, as well as a massive banner reading, "Shouldn't you be in Austria?" I'll have to make it to a Toronto match next time I'm north. |

I am a Rapids ST holder and the atmosphere is definitely lacking, but it's still fun. The ST holders next to us are from Cambridge and they say the level of football is a lot like championship level. They enjoy the game and get our section of the stands singing.
It's well known though that no MLS team supporters can touch the TFC supporters. |

DC United has had brilliant support from the start (La Barra Brava!). Portland Timbers has a great supporters section as well (which was in great voice when we murdered Toronto
).Nevermind those riding the Yanks and Canucks for having no atmosphere... Good on you for actually going to the games that don't draw 74,000, and not just watching it on the tele. Not everyone can go to top flight matches and it's only snobbery to think that's all that's worth attending. I've been to see Cheltenham Robins, Rotor Volgograd and other lower level European teams, and some of the atmosphere there was sometimes poor. Just the way it is. It's not a Canadian/Yank thing. Some of the pain in the ass kids marketing crap in the US is dreadful though. Playing music and shooting tshirts into the crowd just seems vulgar. |

I'm so embarrassed by the crowd tonight, no excuses.
Let me say that the rumor in the crowd was that the Canadian anthem was not going to be played. Rather than having the class to cheer the flags on the pitch (England and US) and then singing the Cdn anthem they got it all wrong. Once the Mounties brought out the flag for a Canadian sing-a-long everone looked like a fool. Once more my apologies. |

That was kinda bad, I agree since I was sitting in the thick of all of it. It was mainly the supporter section, I just kept quiet and felt some sort of respect was deserved since we hate it when we get boo'ed.
nonetheless, the overall atmosphere was great. The crowd was first hostile cheering for no one but after 15 mins, everyone was cheerign for MLS except donovan who was just shit. Becks was loved by the crowd and it was a great game. I also met and got my picture taken with Lauren Robert! I know for UKers that is no big deal...but I have lived my whole life in Canada, so i think it is quite cool. |
