It's a ball. Nike and Adidas seem to come up with a gimmick every season.

Look's wise it's ok, I am glad we're back with the "Premier League = blue" theme. Bit like Walkers crisps!

My fave balls of recent times have been:

What's wrong with just having a nice plain normal ball with no bollocks like 'nightmares for goalkeepers' and favouring the attackers.

Because it leads to more goals which apparently makes the game more entertaining for the fairweathers.

The earlier total 90 ones were certainly my favourite to play with, could hit them hard and true. That silver adidas one with the black design on it was ridiculously light.

I just want for one year a new ball to come out and have the press release say that it's more stable in flight to help keepers.

Or better yet, "here is a ball. It is round. It doesn't help anyone"

Fevernova had a lot of layers, making it heavy. I remeber reading about it back in 2002. quite beautiful ball it was.

the adidas ball they used at euro 2008 is my favorite. it doesn't loop all over the place like nike balls, but it is a laser in the air.

back in the good 'ol days... the wetter the pitch, the heavier the ball. It could hurt good in cold weather too...

im a bit inderwhelmed by this ball. it doesnt replace the one we did so well with last year. but i guess nike is changing the system so hopefully it will be fine. not a cock-out ball IMO.

The ball is very important, not every one is the same.

The bounce and spring of a ball can vary a lot, even between same models. Weight is also pretty inconsistent, heavier balls have drastically different characteristics.

Buy a few different balls and just practice with them. You'll soon realise that you'll have a favourite one which suits your touch the best. Myself, I prefer the Nike T90 Strike balls, cheap but pretty good overall.

You're all saying it's just a ball

There's no doubt even in just the last 10 years they've changed fundamentally

They're practically fly aways these days. I'd hate to be a keeper they've got no fucking chance

It's not so much the weight of them, more their rigidity and aerodynamics (sounds silly when you think of all of them as perfect spheres, but the stitching and panneling plays a major part).

See that's the part I don't believe. Obviously the balls have changed and have had some effect on goalkeeping. But I don't believe most of the blame accredited to ball movement that people use to justify poor keeping. The biggest effect on the game a ball can make is the player's first touch, from my own experiences.

It goes in one direction and then completely randomly in another direction for no apparent reason other than its been kicked reasonably hard!!!

Footballs these days accentuate the action taken on them more than older balls (probably). As in, if you cut across a ball slightly, then it's going to let you know about it more than before. By before I mean like, yonks ago, not in the last 10-15 years.

It's not for no reason, that's those plastic balls you play with on the beach that change direction for no reason!
