IMO, England's best and most well-balanced XI looks something like:
---------------------Hart------------------- Walker-------Ferdinand-----Smalling-----Cole --------------Parker-----Carrick------------ Lennon------------Gerrard-------------Young -------------------Rooney------------------ |

GK: Hart, Robinson, Foster
Defenders: Richards, Walker, Smalling, Ferdinand, Terry, Lescott, Cole, Baines Midfielders: Lennon, Walcott, Carrick, Parker, Gerrard, Lampard/Wilshere, Ox, Young Forwards: Rooney, Bent, Sturridge, Welbeck This is assuming that our reserve keepers make themselves available again which they may not. Wilshere to go if fit, if not then Lampard, Barry or Cleverley. Starting XI: ----------------Hart Walker----Terry----Ferdinand----Cole ----------Carrick----Parker/Wilshere Lennon-------Rooney--------Young -------------Welbeck or maybe ---------------Hart -------------Back 4 --------Carrick---Parker/Wilshere --------------Gerrard -----Sturridge--Rooney--Welbeck |

Rio may also well not be fit or on form. |

Terry simply shouldn't be in the squad. Just like he shouldn't have been in the squad at South Africa. it's not just his form, but it's the attitude and the unrest he causes to both fans and the players. Time to invest in youth!

DF: Smalling, Walker, Jones, Cahill, Cole, Baines, Richards, King MF: Gerrard, Cleverley, Wilshere, Parker, Carrick, Johnson, Young, Chamberlain FW: Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck, Bent --------------Hart Walker---Smalling---King/Cahill---Cole ----------Carrick--Parker Sturridge------Wilshere-----Chamberlain ---------------Rooney Real dilemma about fitting all of Wilshere, Carrick and Parker in a trio. I think Parker is the worst of the three but he's usually great for England so I had to put him in. Gerrard could quite easily fit in behind Rooney with Wilshere moving deeper for one of Carrick or Parker. If Cleverley gets fit and plays I'd also be interested in a United-centric lineup. ------------Hart Jones--Smalling--Ferdinand--Cole --------Carrick---Cleverley Chamberlain----Rooney----Young ------------Welbeck |

Maybe on paper but not as part of an international team for me. Like some of your picks but once again, the Terry, Rio, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, J Cole, Crouch should all be moved on. We've had countless world cups and Euro's with those same old tired names and they've (Bar Rio who's getting on and has injury issues) done very little at times. Its frightening how many people keep picking the same names, which I though was our problem with managers. Do a Holland/Germany, move on I say, think of 2014 not just today. Rio is the only one of that classic bunch who's shown real consistent worth at at tournament IMO and we took him last time and he got injured. Think Rio would love to go but for me he's at the time where he should do a Scholes/Shearer and concentrate on club. Not keen on Lennon either for England but reckon your choices of Hart, Walker, Smalling, Parker, Carrick, Young and Rooney are decent. Hart seems settled, Walker is young and fresh, Carrick despite probably a fair tally of caps now seems relatively untried properly, Parker at least looks like he wants to play in the shirt, Young works out too for us although despite Euro 2004, Rooney has a lot to prove still. Great in qualifications but he's never really got near that 18 year form but you take him because he took us there. My fear is if Redknapp gets in he'll just pick loads of those big PL names thinking he can get it to work. |

If the tournament starts tomorrow and everyone is fit then that would be my squad, but the tournament starts in 170 days so 1-2 changes are likely for the final squad.
Goalkeepers Hart, Stockdale, Forster Defenders Richards, Walker, Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Lescott, A.Cole, Baines Midfielders Parker, Carrick, Milner, Cleverley, Wilshere, Young, Walcott, A.Johnson Strikers Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Bent - I would only pick Ferdinand if he stays fit in the next months and Wilshere plays for 5-6 weeks before the end of the season. - Cleverley will be in my final squad if he stays fit in next months too, he's a massive talent and we don't have many players like him in the squad therefore he should be in the squad at the end with no further problems. - If Oxlade-Chamberlain plays further on so brilliant in the next months then i would pick him over Walcott or A.Johnson, but he has only played so brilliant in the last 4-5 games and that isn't enough for a place in the squad right now. - Forster is eligble for the olympics so maybe he should go that tournament and Ruddy should go the Euros, i mean to be number 1 for Great Britain at the olympics is much better than to be number 3 for England at the Euros. - I've my eyes too on players like Cahill, Rodwell, Davies (Mark from Bolton) or Campbell. |

Hart, Foster, Stockdale
Richards, Walker, Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones, Cahill, Baines, Cole. Carrick, Cleverley, Wilshere, Parker, Young, A. Johnson, Walcott, Lennon. Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge, Defoe. I don't rate Bent and don't get the massive love in for him here either, if Owen had proper legs for a half year leading up to this I'd pick him over Bent as well. I'd go with someone else instead of Defoe but I'd want to bring more than 3 strikers. King deserves to get in, maybe over Ferdinand as bringing both would be too risky imo. Ferdinand gets the nod due to his experience though. Hart Walker Ferdinand Cahill Cole Carrick Parker Sturridge Wilshere Young Rooney Hard leaving Welbeck and Cleverley out of the line up, especially Welbeck, but I think if it was him and Sturridge as the wide players it would be a bit too gungho. |

England's goalkeeping situation is ridiculous. Hart is good, but his backup is a second choice (?) keeper at Fulham with no experience at all. Norway's blessed with pretty shite keepers these days, but we'd probably provide better backup keepers than England do. (Well, not really... That's how shitty the noggie keepers are at this moment in time.)Fraizer? Because of two good games after a hundred years out injured or insignificant?

My team would be;
---------------------------Hart ------------Walker-----Smalling-----Rio-----Cole -------------------------Carrick -------------Cleverley--------------Wilshere Sturridge(A Johnson)-----------------Welbeck (the Ox) --------------------Rooney (Welbeck when Rooney suspended) Bench: Foster, Jones, Richards, Baines, Parker, Gerrard, Milner, A Johnson, Chamberlain, maybe 1 or 2 others from Norwich/Swansea, A Young, (Carroll for a plan "B"?, anyone?) I am not sure: Walcott, Defoe, Cahill The key being, the next England manager should have WC 2014 in sight and give some of the youngsters valuable experience and playing time. |

I'd start by considering which of the current England team would be good to have in a young setup. To be able to guide them through and be happy as part of the squad. Once you've picked those players you then beef up the squad with young promising talent that should be featuring in the England squad for years to come.
Welbeck and Sturridge should be leading the line with Rooney playing in the hole (allowing him to drop back into CM). ------------Hart------------ --Walker-Smalling-Rio-Cole-- -Wilshere--Parker--Cleverly- -----------Rooney---------- -----Sturridge--Welbeck----- I'm probably being a little harsh on Richards and Lescott who could replace Walker/Rio. But the above team has a nice blend of pace/experience/aggression and technical ability. Perhaps a touch narrow and reliant on the Fullbacks but both Welbeck and Sturridge like to run into space, be that wide or centrally. |

Funny thing about England is that a younger side would probably outperform the usual suspects. Same thing applies to Sweden, when we started to introduce loads of younger players, we started to play much better and more attractive football. Imagine an England XI of:
-------------------Hart------------------- Walker------Smalling----Jones---------Cole ------Wilshire-----Carrick----Cleverley----- Sturridge---------Rooney----------Welbeck Much similar to that poster by RedSky above. |

The Under 25's:
GK Joe Hart 24 GK Frank Fielding 23 RB Kyle Walker 21 RB Micah Richards 23 DF Chris Smalling 22 DF Phil Jones 19 RW Theo Walcott 22 RW Aaron Lennon 24 RW Matt Javis 25 LW Adam Johnson 24 CM Jack Rodwell 20 CM Tom Cleverley 22 CM Jack Wilshere 20 FW Danny Welbeck 21 FW Daniel Sturridge 22 FW Gabriel Agbonlahor 25 OAF Andy Caroll 23 Of course if we don't win the Euroes the score stands at Brazil 5, Italy 4, Germany 3, Argentina 2, Uruguay 2, England 1, France 1, Spain 1. If we do win the Euroes the score becomes Germany 6, Brazil (non-eu) 5, Italy 5, France 3, Spain 3, England 2... so many we shouldn't try to win the Euroes. |

All down to Tom now, the opportunity for him is there, especially with Wilshere struggling with injuries. I think we'll be starting Carrick in the Euros alongside Parker. That's the inform English CM partnership. |

I'd go for a complete makeover and axe some of the so called 'Golden Generation' players. You have to go for the next generation at this time in my opinion. It might backfire in terms of results this summer, but at least they'll have spent lots of time together, and they'll have gelled on the pitch. It'll be an investment towards the future.
And with the current team including Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Terry, etc. you're far from sure of good results as well anyway. This would be my line-up at this moment --------------Hart------------ Walker--Smalling--Cahill---Cole Sturridge-Carrick-Wilshere-Young -------Rooney--Welbeck--- or --------------Hart------------ Walker--Smalling--Cahill---Cole ---Carrick-Cleverley-Wilshere--- --Sturridge--Rooney--Welbeck-- Subs: some GK, Parker, Chamberlain, Jones, Cleverley/Young, Lescott, A. Johnson Something along those lines anyay. Richards, Lennon, Milner, Baines would also be in the selection. |

There's a lot of teams here with Jones, Smalling, Cleverley, Welbeck in them, players we all love and have high expectations for but who have done little in football as yet.
I'd love to see a youth-centred England full of United players, it might even make me give a shit, but it's not going to happen. Also it would probably melt down, you do need lots of experience. |

It's pretty stonewall that Jones will be in the squad, and well Welbeck is like 90% likely too. Only Cleverley needs to truly prove himself a bit in the coming months and with Wilshere probably out, theres a spot available for him unless whoever wants to take like 5 wingers or something(which Cleverley can also playa anyway)
