Berbatov wasnt much loved when he 1st moved to Leverkusen and was in and out of the team quite a lot in the year they reached the CL final.

I remember watching German footy highlights when SKY used to have it and they were saying he was a bit of a flop. But then he turned it around and eventually got his move to the PL

So it would appear his career has been full of ups and downs and therefore does not fit into what the OP is looking for
