C. Without a doubt. His style will not suit us and i feel sorry for him becuase its hopeless to get England anywhere. Will be lucky to get us to B.

I agree he needs to revert back to 442. Bias aside, Rooney is obviously leagues above any other striker we currently have. IF we are going to deploy him in a lone striker role, than we'll never get the best of him unless Capello somehow manages to get great support for him in the final third..even then he will not play be at his very best. Either that, or we may see Roney on the left wing in a 433/451. I'm sure Capello has seen enough of Rooney to not drop him, so he has to figure out a way to get the most of him.

I was at Chelsea's academy recently - even the groundkeepers felt sorry for the under 18 / reserve team - knowing that they were doomed to be released or farmed off to the depths of the league no matter how good they aree .

The academy there seems to be a token thing. like everywhere else.

Thats why England are and will continue to be shite, no matter whose in charge

Makes me sick, this self fulfilling prophecy.

We've become phobic about helping our own but addicted to idolizing the exotic foreigner .

I don't know why youngsters would even bother with the Chelsea academy, or the Arsenal one at that as it's always an uphill battle to get somewhere and I can imagine loads of youngsters throwing away a promising future because Chelsea / Arsenal didn't bother with them at the Academy level, it's the same with Spurs aswell.

Hopfully the FA will make teams have to play homegrown youngsters, I think that will be the only way to actually solve the problem.

Hats off to the teams though who are now days actually bringing through young players (Man City, Boro, Everton, yoursleves and of course west ham )

It doesnt help that when a good young English player comes along the interested clubs are almost held to ransom to buy them. Carrick, Rooney, Rio, Walcott, Nugent(!) to name a couple.

In that respect football has gone backwards because now its less of a risk to buy a promising, young foreigner because whilst he may not be used to the culture you've only paid a small percentage compared to what you would have paid for an English lad...

We won't play 442 under Capello, but I'm not convinced the players have what it takes to play the formation he wants..we'll have to see.

No...they played with Edmilson, Gilberto and Kleberson. The attacking front 3 were Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho

433/4231 will beat 442 most of the time if both teams have equally good talents. Thats the reason why most top club or international teams don't use 442

Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Hargreaves, Joe Cole, Rooney (in the CL and big games) don't play in a 442 for their clubs yet they don't have what it takes?

When Rooney plays in that role for us he has Ronaldo et all all up there too support him. For England you are required to hold the ball up. Something he's not the best at.

Gerrard plays that role for Liverpool and has been pants most of this season.

Hargreaves and Barry can definately play that role.

When Cole plays that role for England he isnt as effective as he is for Chelsea. Maybe it has something to do with our front man not being Didier Drogba?

C) - because England just doesn't have the talent and won't until something at the academy level changes.

Rooney needs to stay disciplined and not drop deeper and deeper when he doesn't see much of the ball. When he starts to drop deeper it cramps Gerrard and gives him lesser space. Gerrard in turn starts to chase the ball or has no one stretching the defense upfront when he gets the ball. Both of them want to be Roy of the Rovers whereas a team can maybe afford just one. Capello will get them to be patient and be disciplined but it wont happen overnight.

I most certainly have. And as you know from earlier im a big Gerrard fan but this season (last season too) he has been nowhere near his best.

He's been in good form the last month or so (excluding the United game ) but on the whole he's been fairly poor.

Not just my view.......

Also true.

And to make matters worse, not only do we have the worst percentage of home growns in Europe but how many English players play abroad?

We're that poor.

There is an element of truth in it though. England might not have a team of world beaters, but selecting a world cup squad where the only fit striker is Peter Crouch, isn't exactly going to make things any easier. Other things that don't help include playing your best players out of position, in every single game, sticking to a clearly inept midfield partnership for four and a half years, taking off Paul Scholes in a European Championships quarter final, and replacing him with Phil Neville, etc.

We've had some terrible management in recent years

Ahh come lads that England team is completely overrated and has been for some years. You gotta hold your hands up and say the players arent good enough in key areas!

Defence = Strong but make costly mistakes that lead to game chasing

Central Midfield = Cant decide who's the better player (most creative) - every national team aiming for glory will know who they're best players are - England dont! Build your midfield around your best creator and work from there. United do that with Scholesy!! You dont have a Scholesy though so your fucked!!

Wingers = Lennon is shit - full of pace, no end product, goes missing, cant score goals and has shit eye-brows! Bentley needs to play all the games now - he's your only hope at having a decent winger. Downing doesnt play enough big games for his club - lacks the regular big game experience and chokes on a big stage such as last nite - he couldnt cross his arms last nite! Cant think of anyone else that could give you a threat down the wings - your screwed!!

Strikers = dont score enough goals and when the defence fucks up - your pretty much screwed and resorting to the long ball game, but hey every team does that so its not really an issue, but you seem to chase games and struggle to break the other team down! The way the team was set up last nite was that you were aiming for a set-piece goal becuse there was no penetration in the last third - no-one making runs. Balls were going in now and again there was only Rooney there, Gerrard was hanging in mid-field too much or the wings - you's dont take risks.

Goals = Where they gonna come from????? You've no problem handing them out but plenty of trouble scoring them!

France are quite a bit ahead of you lot by the looks of it but you had some encouraging spells with ball retention but you's didnt do it enough nor did you do anything with it apart from triangles etc - there must be method to the madness!

England dont take risks apart from unplanned pregnancies and STD's.

You dont commit bodies into the box when playing against a decent team, your too scared of conceding! Fuck thinkin about conceding - your liable to concede anyway no matter how well you defend due to Goal Keeping errors - so just fucking go for it and see how it goes because you wont win anything without belief in what you do and you need the players to stop bumming each other in the showers - its a good luck rictual after training - thats what i heard!!

Even though watching the game last night was one of the most mind-numbing performances I have seen in a long time you can alreeady see that Capello is working his magic. We were extremely solid, looked very confident and assured which was something that certainly didn't exist under MaClaren. The man has been in charge for two friendlies, if he cannot find the team we all desire then England is doomed for all eternity.
