It´s a bid ridiculous, he had a few poor seasons but was always in the Spanish squad no matter what, most of the time starting even, then when he rediscovers his form and has an awesome season, the coach refuses to pick him.

Aragones believe's Raul's a bad influence on the rest of the squad..
He said this a long time ago and when it looked like Raul's days were over, credit to Raul for changing his style and becoming as effective as he used to be. |

Aragones (the racist twat) doesn't like him, End of story.
Raul has been brilliant for Madrid and one of the rare players thats isn't a cunt. He scored over 20+ goals and he got assists. What more could he do ? Quote:

This is a slightly strange omission to say the least.
I would not be surprised it wasn't a performance motivated decision. He's had a good season this year. |

Shocker but then again Spain has always had a fantastic squad that has pretty much done nothing thanks to poor management. Raul is a leader and had a great season... It'll be scary seeing Bojan and Torres if they continue developing- great future partnership perhaps. I think Bojan made the right decision to say he didn't want to go. |

Joaquin, Guti, Raul, Vicente, Arteta, Del Horno, Reyes, Valeron
All miss out. Not all performed exceptionally well recently due to form and injuries - Arteta and Guti aside. Still, aside from Arteta, all of them featured heavily in the Spain squad a few years ago. |

That Spain squad to me indicates its going to be the same old story for them in Euro 2008. They'll play some good football but will probably get found out defensively and be over powered in midfield by more experienced and hardened players like at the world cup when Thuram, Gallas, Makelele and Vieira snuffed out the attacking threat and quelled the influence Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas had on the game resulting in them getting knocked out.

Also, I'd like to point out a very big reason why Raul has not been included in the squad.
The three strikers in the squad are : Fernando Torres - I dont really need to explain this one. His finishing this season has been better than its ever been before and even before that he was the main man for Spain. 29 league starts netted 24 league goals. David Villa - Every bit as talented as Torres, but more likely to set up a team mate. Villa can't really play in a 4-5-1 as Spain have been doing recently so he'll be on the bench. Or, with some luck, Spain might go back to 4-4-2 and play them both. 16 goals in 25 starts, in a season where his goals kept his club off the foot of the table. Dani Guiza - Top scorer this season in La Liga ahead of Luis Fabiano. Not a young player, not a spectacular player, but one who has been in great form - especially near the end of the season, and can be counted on to nick a goal. 35 starts and 25 goals in La Liga this season. Raul himself has 18 goals in 35 league matches, which is a fine haul and meant he was top scorer for the team that won the league. But Spain should be more than fine without him. In fact, if they go with a 4-4-2 and play Torres and Villa together, they just might run riot this year and Torres could end up top scorer at the tournament. But chances are they'll stick to 4-5-1 with just Torres up front and their over-adundance of attacking midfielders in the middle. |

Probable Spain starting XI (if I were the manager)
---------------------Casillas------------------------- --S.Ramos--------Puyol--------Albiol------Capdevilla-- ---------------------Senna---------------------------- -------Iniesta----------Xavi--------------Fabregas----- ------------------Villa------Torres-------------------- Prediction: They'll probably cruise to the knockout sage playing fanstastic football, the media will wank over them, they will get knocked out in the quarter or semifinals after dominating the whole match but failing to score. Their defense is very weak & susceptible to opponents with good aerial ability and strength |

You're right about the defence. Capdevila is no more than a decent player and Puyol is half the player he was a year ago. I like Raul Albiol, but he's no Rio Ferdinand. It's lucky they have Cassilas behind them. |
