Redknapp on Adebayor's wages

Any truth in the wages Adebayor is receiving?

Harry Redknapp: Emmanuel Adebayor must take pay cut to join Spurs - ESPN Soccernet

"He has done well for us. He has worked hard but he is on amazing money," Redknapp said.

"The other week, one of the lads told him that he had not paid his £50 fine for being the worst player in training on a Friday morning. One of the lads said to him: 'Bloody hell, Ade, you are on 200 grand a week and you can't afford to pay a £50 fine!' He replied: 'Don't insult me, it's 225!'." Redknapp added: "He certainly isn't getting that here."

Seriously you cannot blame players if they move clubs because of money unless they owe their current club or are fans.

I mean 225 k ffs! He should be getting less than 100 imo.

I read somewhere he was on 200k with Spurs & City paying 100k each.

Edit: taken from the Guardian:
Quote:
He earns £170,000 a week, of which City contribute £100,000, and Adebayor pulled no punches about the importance of the money, a significant portion of which he channels back to Africa to fund community projects. Tottenham's weekly wage ceiling is around £70,000, although the midfielder Luka Modric hopes to drive it up to £100,000 in his continuing negotiations for a new contract.

"We all play football to get money," Adebayor said. "I'm from Africa and I have to give something back to my community. You all know that I've been doing a lot of charity stuff without knocking at any door. I'm taking my own wages to do it and I will keep doing it until the end of my career. I will leave it [the talks about next season] to Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and Khaldoon [al-Mubarak], the chairman of Manchester City, to find a solution between themselves."

I think he has already said that he won't take a pay cut.

I perfectly understand players for doing what Adebayor does on those wages. There's a difference if you can go to one club and get 80k and City and get 100-110k but no one is gonna match that in Europe. It's a win-win situation for him really. Get his wages and is loaned out to a top football club where he is a first teamer.

No doubt, Snow. Despite the excessive greed that runs rampant in professional sports, I believe a man (and woman) should take whatever is available to them. That said, it's disgusting to see what a club like City is doing to the sport.

Yes. Dont think anyone doubts that.
Atleast he is decent and plays games.
City have players like Jo and Santa Cruz on their payroll on big money and they do nothing.. and then there is the 250k+ Tevez

Clearly being overpaid. Not his fault. Who would say no to money like that.

An athlete needs to make all he can while he's fit. You never know when an injury will cut your career short.

They "can" as long as they want to because the club is just a play thing with pocket change

Doesn't the City ownership have something like many billions in the bank?

He should be on 100 grand a year if there was any fairness in the world!

If Spurs can at all afford it, they should pay him whatever it takes, he's been the difference for them this season, imo.
