Published 23:00 29/04/10 By Paul O'Hehir Roy Keane last night stunned Manchester United fans by claiming he has wiped the club from his history and couldn't care less if Chelsea pip them to the title. The Ipswich Town boss is a legend at Old Trafford and is still adored by the club's fans where he played 479 games over a 12-year period, won seven league titles and donned the captain's armband. "I'm pretty sure they have wiped me from their history and I have wiped them from mine, so I have no interest whatsoever," he blasted. "It's pretty scary actually, I have no interest whatsoever - you move on. You always have a little interest in your old team, don't get me wrong, but I'd have that with Rockmount, Cobh, Sunderland, Forest, Celtic, but if you think I'm waiting and hoping they win these trophies I'm not." And in an apparent swipe at United, Keane added: "I have seen at the business end what these clubs can do to people, so I take that with a pinch of salt. "I don't have any attachments to these clubs emotionally. I'm relaxed about it and all my priorities are with Ipswich. Clubs I've played for in the past? It's strange but I have very, very little interest." While Keane's emotional ties are clearly severed at Old Trafford, on a professional basis he reckons the title could still go either way, insisting both United and leaders Chelsea are capable of winning their two remaining games. Chelsea lead United by a single point and travel to Liverpool on Sunday before hosting Wigan on the final day of the season. United visit Keane's former club Sunderland this weekend before entertaining Stoke at Old Trafford. And Keane has rubbished the idea that Liverpool will roll over at Anfield and allow Chelsea win just to spite the Red Devils. "Rubbish," he blasted. "If anyone thinks Liverpool will go out and happily allow their opponents win, they're living in cuckoo-land. "Chelsea are more than capable of going there, flexing their own muscles and turning them over. Their record is not bad there in terms of league matches. "But the table at the end of the season wont lie and whoever wins the league wins it. Both team could win their last two games and that means Chelsea will win it - and that would mean very little to me." What was his last gripe? I cant remember anymore. Honestly I am still bitter about his salary negotiation ploy -- dragged on for a while and finally got his 60k per week. I couldnt believe a captain would do such a thing.

Ask him what were his memorable moments of being a football player, and you wouldn't be surprised if he says 'being at United'.
He is a fiery character and speaks his mind. He can't be always right about it though, just as he slagged his own team mates. But that doesn't lessen any respect for what he has done for the club and the team. |

Slightly disappointed to hear that he doesn't feel anything for the club anymore, would have been nice of him to add that he still appreciated the fans even if he felt badly treated by the club.

God of a player, total classless cunt of a man. He may have an absolutely brilliant career with the negative qualities of a person, but will go nowhere as a manager, till he learn how to treat a fellow human being with more respect and learn some interpersonal skills. Till then, I *** give a shit *** him as his career has long ended and I have more affinity for the likes of Robson, Soljkjaer and Becks.

It's just he feels that his priorities are with Ipswich and with the season they've had what else would you expect from him. He has a job to do there and I don't think for a minute he's satisfied with what he's done, why on earth should he burden himself with what happens in the Premiership? I'm not even that sure that he really wants a long term career in managership more a case of testing himself to prove he can do something. I can see him walking away and being with his family. He's far to complex a character to make an opinion either way based on that interview |

I have no doubt that keane has not wiped united from his memory and thats why we often hear comments like this that seem to upset many on here. keane was a legend for us. an absolutely brilliant player and the heart and soul of our team. he gave everything he had in every game. anyone who has read his account of things knows he feels very let down by the way united handled his departure.
keane loved united and that was obvious from his book. he is a man who bears grudges and like anyone who was dumped by the one he loved he is resentful. understandable really but should not be taken so personally by united fans, if anything its a sign of how hurt he was and how much he loved united. if SAF was shoved out the door the same way I have no doubt he would be just as resentful and some on here would call him a c**t for it. but try and remember the contribution over the years. not the bitterness of the separation |

I think he may not have had the best treatment when he left the club. A lot of things probably happened behind the scenes, but my sense is that SAF may have felt that his uncompromising approach may have affected the progression of some of the younger players. Fletcher was an example.
All said, he gave all the best years of his life to the club, and for that he deserves to be remembered fondly. He's a hard person, and a natural winner. As a professional, his ability to block off all other sentiments for the sake of winning once served us well, and I've no doubt it will be used to serve Ipswich now (as a manager). But as football fans we have the luxury of feeling sentimental and nostalgic. So maybe we should just remember him for the good stuff, rather than for what he said in some tabloid interview a few years after he left. |
