Sammy Lee: Liverpool are better than top three teams

Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee claims the club are well placed to overtake Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League.
The 49-year-old believes that his club are capable of catching the top three Premier League teams, but added that Liverpool will require a stroke of luck to do so.

He told the club's official website: "They are three very good teams. Only results will prove whether I'm right or wrong, but I feel that we need to be looking to be not just as good as, but better than those three.

"We just need that little stroke of luck, that little attention to detail, and you never know.

"We are not that far away and I feel we have proven on many occasions over the past four or five years that we can be better than them. Not as good as - but better."

He continued: "Only time will tell, but what I will say is that everyone is striving and working hard to try and make sure that we can close that gap and overhaul it.

He doesn't say they are better, he says they need to be better. How about actually reading what he says before rushing to make a thread?

Though he is talking shit when he says they have proven many times over the last 4-5 years they can be better.

Oh come one, if you actually read what he says you can clearly see that it's not "Liverpool are better than top three teams".

You might as well remove every single employee of the english tabloid press from the face of the earth. It would improve the planet immensely. Yes, that includes the tea lady.

Scored: 2 (1 being an Own Goal)
Conceded: 11

Liverpools 'Progress'

At Old Trafford

I think somene should put Sammy Lee in his place. You Would think he would be grateful that society has moved on so much that he is able to make his living as Assistant Manager at the fourth best football club in the country rather than in a fair ground being tossed

Sammy Lee gets it.

Liverpool legend Sir Sammy Lee fired a warning shot across the bow of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal yesterday by claiming: "We're going to tear you a new arsehole"

"They are three very good teams. Only results will prove whether I'm right
or wrong, but I feel that we need to be looking to be not just as good as, but
better than those three.

"We just need that little stroke of luck, that little attention to detail,
and you never know."We are not that far away and I feel we have proven on many
occasions over the past four or five years that we can be better than them. Not
as good as - but better."

"Only time will tell, but what I will say is that everyone is striving and
working hard to try and make sure that we can close that gap and overhaul
it".

Sammy's comments are refreshing. It's about time we saw someone involved with the club display this kind of confident attitude in the press, It's been years. With the additions of World-class signings like Degen, Dossena and Cavalieri, and having four Euro2008 winners we should be fucking confident.

Sammy also hits the nail on the head by saying we need luck. Scum have had their fair share over the last 16 years but it won't last forever. If you carefully examine facts you will see that we are a more consistent team than them and more consistent than any other club in Europe.

The UEFA coefficients are based on consistency and we are top of that league with UEFA, in May this year, awarding us the prize of the greatest team in Europe over the last half a decade. This is no small feat.

The other thing that Sammy knows and many are not aware of is that last year, if we beat Manchester United in the league both home and away, we would have won the bloody thing. With Sir Sammy on board, a player who won it all, we win have that spark in the change room for this fixture now, something we didn't have with Pako. He will fire the players up no end and give them confidence to go out at both Anfield and Old Toilet and give the cunts the hiding of their lives.

If I were scotchnose I'd be shaking in my boots right now. Rafa has gone out and found his number one, the final piece of the jigsaw, whilst Fergie is left rudderless by the departure of Carlos Queeroz, with no one wanting to fill that gap and work under the tyranny of football's great oppressor.

Well done Sammy, hopefully your attitude will give players like Gerrard and Carragher the confidence to come out and proclaim that we are title favourites as well. It would mean so much to the other players and fans, all of whom know that this year is our year.

Sammy Lee has an awful lot of credibility with me by him trying his hardest to get Bolton relegated.

That is because they have finished fourth more often than not for ten years.

On the second point had Liverpool had won both Man Utd games the table would have looked like this:

1. Chelsea- 85 points
2. Arsenal- 83 points
3. Liverpool- 82 points
4. Man Utd- 81 points

eighteenfive.blogspot.com, well said.

seriously..it would not surprise me if they beat us at anfield in Sept...then they'd make lots of public statements about a new era an' that and we'll still finish 10 points clear of em...

He hasn't actually said we're better than the top three has he? He's said that on occassions over the past few years we've proved that we can be better than the top three. He is either referring to our European record, or the instances where we've beaten Chelsea and Arsenal (and the one time we beat you lot).
