The problem is, it's "always" been just about Real and Barca in Spain, similar to the Scotland problem, but just not as extreme.
As long as Barca and Real are sensible managed from top to bottom, it is near enough impossible for the other Spanish club to get a look-in. That's different compared to England, where no clubs have been dominating for more than 15 years (Liverpool in 70's and 80's and United in 90's and naughties). |

Wenger has had his say (regarding Fabregas moving there)
"I can't see anybody with a competitive edge wanting to go to Spain," said Wenger. "They have two good teams and the number three is 27 points behind. "Next weekend the players threatened to strike because they are not paid. It is a league in complete disarray." BBC Sport - Football - Arsene Wenger warns Cesc Fabregas off joining Barcelona |

I think someone pointed out that Xerez get 5million euro in TV money, while Burnely get 10 times that.
That's the difference between the two leagues. Barca and Real, with their exclusive TV contracts, hoover up all the cash and leave the rest fighting for scraps. No wonder Valencia nearly went bust trying to keep up. The difference in TV money has really exploded in the last few years, to an extent that it's hard to see anyone outside of Barca and Real win La Liga. |

The strike is also in the third division, the lower half as well. Segunda B I think it's called. It's not like clubs like Zaragoza don't have money, it's often that they don't use it wisely, particularly recently the managers in the league haven't been there unlike 3 or 4 years ago. The Spanish also have a greater movement with clubs between divisions. All of Sevilla, Villareal, Getafe, Almeria and quite a few others have only in the last ten years earned a place in the top dibision. While others like Tenerife have fallen down the pecking order, it's different to England were Villa, Pool, Arsenal, Everton ect haven't ever relegated but it's hard to say a leagues not open when a team like Sociedad can have CL football not long ago but be in the second division now or Almeria who are pushing for Europe despite them never having played in top flight a few years ago. It's not like F-1 were there is pecking order that's very rarely broken.
