What gets me is I've always had soft spot for Spurs Half my family support United the other half support Spurs I've always thought of them as our London branch I loved them in 80's when i first got into football Ossie and hoddle and waddle were one of the few plus points in shit decade for english football and I can see that they don't want to lose Berbatov but if they had got two or three quality players in the 3 years since berbatov signed instead of throwing money around like confetti hoping some of turns out well, sacking the best manager they've had in 20's for a bad few bad results maybe his best players wouldn't want to leave. Anyway from what I can see Berbatov and his agent have been trying to engineer this move since the day he strolled into white heart lane. Maybe Spurs should aim their anger at them

Ferguson claims his remarks were misreported by a national newspaper and that United may now bring in their legal team.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa, he said: "It is going to be very embarrassing for them (Tottenham).

"But you know what Daniel Levy is like. He is different."

He'd be better of trying to claim that his comments were misreported by the MUFC officially-endorsed Norwegian fanzine, since this is where the Sun obtained these quotes.

It will be be an interesting spectacle: MUFC in a lawsuit against one of it's official fanzines.

But these Fergie quotes are a sideshow in any case. The real substance is the allegation of tapping up, which has nothing to do with Fergie's quotes..

The whisper is that Levy has substantial, documented evidence - written, taped and filmed - and is going to nail both clubs (Liverpool and Man. United) to the wall over this.

I say again, those who think Levy's allegation is focused on - or depends on - such a flimsy basis as Fergie's quotes as relayed in The Sun from Norway, are living in a fantasy world. Levy does not make such statements without being totally sure of what he's doing and he will have taken top class legal advice before proceeding.

You seriously believe that the evidence cited by Levy consists of quotes printed 2nd hand in The Sun?

Seems like you chairman is widely known to be as crazy as you are!!!

Wait until this all comes out, and your chairman has to publicly apologise for attacking Fergie based on dodgy quotes in The Sun!!

You think when The Sun come out and say they got the quotes from a United fansite in Norway via Redcafe that everyones going to think they are "public comments".

"Today's public comments by Manchester United's manager, announcing that he has made an offer for Dimitar and is confident that the deal will go through with time working in their favour, is a blatant example of sheer arrogance and interference with one of our players," said Levy in a statement on the club's official website.

"It is also probably one of the worst offences by any manager in the Premier League to date and is unbelievably hypocritical given his recent comments in respect of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid.

A few hours have passed since this morning and obviously the following still hasn't yet sunk into your brain:

1) The tapping up allegation has precisely nothing to do with Fergie's quotes. Any stupid manager can make any stupid comment to the media, but it doesn't constitute tapping up. Do you even know what the the phrase "tapping up" means? I seriously doubt it based on your dense responses so far.

2) An interview given to a fanzine and then published on the internet constitutes public comments - it's not a private, off the record conversation.

It doesn't really matter Berbatov will line up for ManU next season, ManU may/may not get a slap on the wrist and Levy will look like a tool.

what proof do you have we tapped up Berbatov without your permission? all Fergie said was we bid for an unknown player.

As I perfectly proved earlier, you're been attacking Fergie on this website for the comments in The Sun. It's the only "proof" you can cling to for your tapping up allegations.

Now that you see what a bad move it was to trust The Sun you're wildly hoping your chairman has some "secret" evidence to back up his attack.

Look at the opening paragraph from Levys statement in bold above.
That's a disgusting attack on the integrity of Alex Ferguson based on quotes in The Sun that nobody will trust when they hear that The Sun got them from the norwegian Redcafe.

You're really wearing out your welcome around here with your brainless attacks on SAF.

Bloody hell!

Its not like this is about a player who Tottenham have said is under contract and definitely not for sale anyway.

Pointless posturing by Levy, if I was a Spurs fan I would still be pissed off.

Didn't Ramos say his team were open for bidding on, recently?

All I can say is that Levy better have some bloody good evidence to be making such a bold statement.

Daniel Levy's face must be so red

If I was him I'd struggle to show my face because I'd feel like a right prat.

Sounds to me like he's thrown a hissy fit because both his strikers have hopped it!

Yes, I've criticised Fergie for his reported comments - the words stupid, arrogant and hypocritical spring to mind - and so have several MUFC fans.

First off they are not 'my' tapping up allegations. They come from the Chairman of THFC.

Secondly, it seems you'll never be able to grasp the simple fact that Levy's anger at Fergie's comments is simply the straw that broke the camel's back and is entirely separate from Levy's allegations of tapping up and the evidence he cites, so I hereby totally give up trying to din this easy distinction into your dense brain. I can only suggest that you read Levy's statement properly and then refer to 'tapping up' in a dictionary of modern-day phrases.

It's not 'secret' evidence - it's evidence that will shortly be in the hands of the Prem. League. Nor is it a question of my 'wild hopes' - I'm simply relaying what is being whispered. Take it or leave it - but we'll all find out soon enough.

Are you sure it's not your wild hopes that all this simply revolves around a misreporting of Fergie's comments? If those are your hopes then you're in for a rude shock.

It's not the norwegian Redcafe - its from an interview given by Fergie to an official MUFC fanzine, and a major fanzine at that so I'm told.

As I've said already, if the comments are untrue then I expect to see the club suing one of its own fanzines ... don't hold your breath.
