That would be a good racism check: If you think Terry apologizing to Rio is good enough, you might be a racist!

That's an opinions shared by a whole lot of non-English folk who watch the PL every weak.

Balotelli get's prosecuted, Lescott escapes. Just one of many this season alone.

That was hilarious that day. We won 3-0 I think didn't we?

The sarcastic cheering EVERY time he touched the ball, for the whole 90 mins, really rattled him. Not often you see the crowd actually rattle someone, but on that day I really think we did.

Also nearly pissed myself at the prolonged cheer when his name was read out on the team-sheet. Great day that.

The Euros are in June, aren't they? Imagine if Terry captained England to the trophy (I know, I know, but just imagine) and a couple of weeks later he was convicted for racial abuse of one of the other players' brothers.

Have Rio and Terry played together since the abuse?

No. I don't even think Rio will be picked, tbh.

I don't quite understand why the trial has been postponed. Is that in any way common in the UK?

Absolutely ridiculous. He will probably get done after the Euros and miss 4 pre season friendlys as a result.

Apparently this is the reason (from Annie Eaves on twitter)
Quote:
Joh Terry's trial has been delayed because his defence said it would be difficult to call the many witnesses before then.
As the defence has already had quite a few months to talk to witnesses, I'm assuming this means that the witnesses (which is most likely mainly footballers) won't have time to meet up in court. Sounds like a fantastic reason. I'm sure their day are much busier than the average working man's day.

The Suarez/Evra incident also happened in October 2011, yet that's been fully investigated and a verdict given following a hearing.

Why is Terry's trial delayed by such a long time? Also, why is the maximum fine for this offence only £2,500 when Suarez was fined £40,000?

Something dodgy about this.....no surprise there.

You do know one is a criminal trial and one is a punishment imposed by the FA?

To be honest if you have enough money to throw at most Court trials you can delay them countless weeks/months.

I suspect the real reason for this is that he wants to go to the European Championships, and he knows that won't happen if he's found guilty.

What's going to be very interesting is, if the courts find him not guilty, how the FA will treat this. It might well be that Terry gets cleared because it can't be proven beyond reasonable doubt, but the FA's standard of proof is significantly lower, requiring only balance of probabilities. It would be very difficult though, to charge a man with an offence when in the eyes of the general public he has already been proven innocent.

Don't try and impose logic on me - I want to believe the FA are in the wrong

Looks like Terry, unless injured, is going to Euro 2012 as I just don't see the FA growing a pair and doing the right thing

John Terry won't face trial for Racial Abuse until after Euro2012, so he's free to lead his country into Poland. Just like his hero did.

It wouldn't be right to take him to the Euros with this hanging over his head.

So because the trial has been delayed until June, does that mean the FA are powerless until then?

Absurd if so.

Well, thinking about it, it's not THAT absurd, as any verdict made by the FA will surely impact the jury and make a fair trial impossible. But it's not quite right that, as you said, he could captain England (alongside Rio) to the Euros, then get found guilty of racial abuse shortly after.
