Anfield is where promising careers go to die these days.

I'm surprised you haven't brought Winston Bogarde out of retirement yet.

He's a good player and he can have big impact in games, game-winning impact, but being the main man or one of the main men... It's a little too much. The fact that he's becoming such an important player for Arsenal is another evidence for the diminishing quality in the squad.

The second sentence is a good summary of Walcott. Not sure he has enough football skills to fit in at United though, and we already have Valencia who offers the same pacy directness.

The plan was to take Jack off about 60, drop Ramsey back and introduce Theo. Ramsey getting knacked put paid to all that.

Got a goal and an assist and still managed to frustrate the shit out of me on numerous occasions. Fair play to him though he did well.

Everytime I open the Guardian, there's a story on Theo Walcott.

Walcott is mulling on a new contract, Walcott is open to moving abroad, Walcott wants to play in the middle, just fckn die you little cnut

Note: no, the mods don't give a shit about a flippant remarks. He's not actually wishing harm on the player, you gimps - Brwned.

Wtf? That's crossing the line, mate!

Walcott is a very decent player, and because of his extreme pace he will always pose a threat, especially as a sub when players tire. With our somewhat limited number of wingers atm, I wouldn't mind him too much at United, if Nani were to leave, mind you.

I'll be calling him a lot worse than that if he pisses us about and doesn't sign his contract.

One thing is thinking it, another thing is writing it. Worst case scenario it will be seen as threatening. Ridiculous to write such things, especially as the Internet does not forget, not even things that are deleted.

I can understand Arsenal fans being frustrated, but you have to look at it from his perspective also. Arsenal hasn't won anything in a few years and he isn't even playing regularly, so he might just want a different challenge.

He doesn't actually want him to die, he's just making an exaggerated comment to show his disinterest in the Walcott media tossfest.

why not just let him concentrate on himself. If he wants to piss away a ten year career over calling someone a cunt then let him. He doesn't need you to tell him what the mods frown upon.

Realistically, where is he likely to go that is above Arsenal? This is the thing I don't understand. Surely in his own mind he thinks he's king shit if he wants either more money or a contract at a relative big club.

He's massively overrated. I call him 'Thoroughbred' Walcott. In this day and age I just don't get all this contract business.

I know - but some things you write and some you refrain from writing. To say it aloud is one thing, but as you are typing you have time to think and word yourself differently. If he is so disinterested, just let it go and not find your way into a discussion forum about Walcott.

Regardless. Giving someone a bit of a thrashing when they're down to 10 men is hardly proving a point is it?

The quality in the league is piss poor this year.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has voiced his “frustration” over Theo Walcott's long-awaited new deal - after negotiations broke down completely.

The Mirror understands there have been no new discussions in MONTHS between England winger Walcott’s representatives and Dick Law, the club's transfers and contracts fixer.

Walcott has made it clear that he wants to stay and sign a new deal but it is Arsenal, who appear to be unwilling to budge on their £75,000-a-week contract offer.

Accepting what's on the table would leave the 23-year-old on the low end of the pay-scale among his England team-mates.

The stand-off may prompt Arsenal to try to sell in January rather than let Walcott leave on a free next summer, even though Wenger insists publicly they will keep him.

The fact negotiations have turned into this stand-off will not please Gooners, who have seen Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri sold in the past two off-seasons when nearing the end of their contracts.

Arsenal’s hard-ball contract tactics have alerted Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to move for Walcott in January, while Chelsea and City will be able to offer big-money contracts when he's a free agent.

Wenger said: “With Theo, I have no news. I am frustrated, honestly. If you ask me will we sell Theo in January? No. I have always been hopeful he will sign.

“I personally am not involved in that directly, indirectly of course yes, but at the moment we have not made any progress.

“Between the player and me it is all clear - he knows what I want and he has to make up his mind.

"We have been in negotiations with Theo for a long long time, and we have not been late in our renegotiations with him. We always try to extend the contracts very early.”

Yet the reality is that Walcott’s representatives have not met face to face with Arsenal since the end of August, when the club left it until the final week of the summer transfer window to make an offer - and issue an ultimatum that if he did not sign, then he would be sold.

75k for walcott? what's he asking for? I'm guessing he talked to ashley young and when he found out what he was making, got right on the blower to arsene.

Cheap shot coming up here, but I love cheap shots so...

Walcott was sublime against Newcastle but if ever Wenger needed a counter-argument to the suggestion he has to be played up front this is it. I assume Walcott would rather not get as much media/fan attention from this performance, no "Just pay him the money, Arsene" headlines. He doesn't offer enough to his game to be a centre forward.

This is true. He needs to get over this phase of demanding to be a striker and work on being great in a position where he does have a long term future in if he wants to play at a top side.

Will certainly be games he lacks the physicality to play as a lone front man.
And you can't see Arsenal playing a front 2 too often.

I can't stand their play, with Cazorla, Wilshere and Arteta always being about 10yards apart and doing the role of 2 between 3.

Time to start re-evaluating opinion of him?

Could end up with 30+ goals this year. Has 18 goals and 12 assists already.

Amusingly, he signed the contract and has now been shunted out to the right a little (if of a 4-3-3, and due largely to Giroud's good form).

Thought today he would have served the team a lot better if he had stayed on the right more especially in the first half - he kept wanting to join up with Giroud but it meant Arsenal didn't get at the Suarez/Johnson combo on the left and they really should have focused on that quite a bit. Noticed he stayed out a bit more in the second half.

He crosses and finishes well.
