Drogba turns 33 this year and will accordingly not be knocking in as many goals as he did last year in the future. Also, Anelka is 32 shortly, which basically leaves them with Sturridge, Borini, and Kalou. Not an idea situation. They would have done well to buy a Dzeko or Adebayor etc.

Would be a good move for all concerned. Would Give the scousers the money they desperately need. Would give the player a clean start at a new club especially considering how he doesn' seem to be arsed with Liverpool any more, and would give Chelsea a new striker to be the fulcrum of their side.

He's probably more fit than your average 33 year old striker, but its highly unlikely that he will repeat last year's 37 goal tally again, especially with the club being in flux as they have been for much of this year.

Am I right in saying Liverpool haven't brought in a striker this month, so they would be left with just N'gog and Dirk kuyt? That would be somewhat risky as it is extremely unlikely theywould get a suitable replacement in time.

They will take Anelka back and about 40 million and that buys them a bit of time to spend the money in the summer rather than panic buy now.

RT @GuillemBalague: Torres wants LFC to keep negotiating with CFC. NO buyout clause. 4 days 2 go b4 POSSIBLE exit
Balague really fancies himself as a massive ITK but he's basically clueless. |

Let's be honest with his injury record and recent sketchy form - he isn't worth 50 million.
Infact, if they spend 50 million I'd rather it be on Torres, then say an Aguero or equally good attacking midfielder. |

The odd thing is, if they sign Torres they'll surely have to buy another couple of players, as they'd be left with almost no proper right sided players, and you'd assume they'd need one as they'd have two up front. Unless they're buying him on the basis that Drogba will be off soon.

Sky are reporting that Torres has asked Liverpool to consider Chelsea's offer... Looks like he wants out and that Chelsea have approached him without Liverpool's permission.
Not only that, that will be the end of the love between the player and the scouse supporters. |

My workplace is full of Liverpool fans, and they're all bricking it that this'll go through. And none of them like the idea of relying of N'Gog and quite a few aren't keen on Suarez either.

As a United fan I'm really hoping this doesn't happen.
Torres with a taste for blood (a title challenge) which he could get at Chelsea would see the same player we saw 2 years ago especially with quality players around him again. Liverpool on the otherhand don't need a luxury player right now, they need investment in genuine quality throughout the team, something they can't afford to do right now. £50m in their hands now without Benitez to piss it away on 17 Spanish fringe players could see them really strengthen. Hopefully the Scouse are stupid enough not to sell. |

They're trying to get him now because they know City will move in the Summer. And in all seriousness, good on Chelsea for remaining competitive in the market.
Since City started really spending NO OTHER English club has made any big transfers and if the rest of the big 4 don't start restrengthening in the next 6 months, City's quality and depth will start to create a gap in the next year or so. Chelsea haven't made a big signing in a while so they've every right to go for the lady boy. I'd rather he went to Chelsea than ended up at City. |

So while yes, they can spend what they like now, there is still consequences because once the FFP come in they will have a smaller budget reflected by their accounts over the last 3 years. |

They won't go down, probably wont get in the CL so the board might think that they can right the season off and spend the money in the summer. |
