He's a goner. No way Liverpool would've signed Suarez unless they knew a big bounty was coming for Torres.

That mirror article is complete rubbish. I can't imagine Chelsea agreeing to a deal worth £60 mill for an injury prone striker who's 27. Lazy lazy journalism.

An exploratory offer of £40m was rejected, but Chelsea have immediately decided to increase that bid by another five million, with young striker Daniel Sturridge thrown in.
Looks plausible to me.

So they're rating Sturridge at £15m? Bloody hell.

I don't get why anyone would reject a transfer request from a player no matter who they are, at the end of the day why keep someone who doesn't want to be there? Can't be good for team morale either..

Hah ha. They laughed at the Rooney situation, but Rooney was playing hardball for a big contract. He never made a fucking written transfer request.

Shades of the way Ruud wanted to leave United. It's unlikely that Torres will be at Liverpool beyond the summer.

He asked to leave the club, pretty much the same apart from the technical stuff. Nobody will forget that Rooney wanted out.

There is a difference. A written transfer request is a different level IMO. If Torres ends up signing a big fat new contract with Liverpool then I will be proven wrong, but at the moment this looks like he has given up on Liverpool, not that he is playing hardball for a new contact.

From my recollection Rooney never asked to leave. I might be wrong but all he ever said was that he had told Gill he wouldn't be signing a new deal, not 'I want out'. It was a wankers move but he didnt go as far as a transfer request.

He's gone now. Hey ho, wish he'd left before the 15 games early in the season that he played utter, utter sh*t. At least Ngog would have scored 3/4 more goals in those games.

New transfer rules coming in this summer right? So Chelsea are up against it to get this deal through now and not then. So £60 million will be the starting price and if its no deal then he can go to City in the summer for more. Obviously they'll find a way to get over the transfer rules, obscene money usually does.

He didn't hand in an official request, but he was begging Ferguson to let him leave, indeed according to Ferguson he was in tears.

One of the reasons that Ronaldo cost Real Madrid £80 million was because Man United were at the pinnacle of a trophy laden cycle and were stable financially so it was a sellers market. Liverpool on the otherhand with the problems you have, the strength and depth of your side and lets be generous, your 'grey' future, Chelsea can demand a much lower price.

Not to mention that Ronaldo was world player of the year contender when Man United sold him, Torres isn't exactly in the same form.

Nah, he will probably be persuaded to stay, like Gerrard, Rooney and Tevez. You`ve got to love the modern day footballer.

Torres for 60million? Is it our fault that players are more expensive these days thanks to the ronaldo transfer?

I wouldn't put it past City to jump in and offer £150 billion though tbf.

No to mention that the player in question wants to leave and submitted a transfer request which weakens Liverpool's bargaining position.

Our fault? It was Real who made the bid! We'd have been mad to say no.

Since when do they follow logic, if it is all a ploy to get one Man City fan to get Torres tattooed onto his chest beside Rooney and Kaka in a Mount Rushmore setup it would be sort of worth it.

Since we are the only club with credible resources to do it, we should put in a £100 million bid for Messi just to see what crazy number Man City pull out of a hat.

60m, jeez, hes a good player but no way is he worth anything near that, Villa's a better player and went for much less, plus Torres is borderline injury prone.

Rooney was greedy, Tevez is mental and Torres... ambition?

To be fair, this has been a strange season with players stirring up shit.

I understand that Torres wants to leave but you have to understand the frustration of the Liverpool fans (regardless of if you like them or not). If he goes the respectful thing would be to leave England to be fair. I also realize that nobody else has made an offer but if Liverpool offer him to Real, Barca, Milan and Inter somebody is bound to take them up on the offer.

Transfer request

He wants out and it's only a matter of time until he does. Liverpool should know you can't keep a player against their will forever. It does nobody any good. They should cash in before resentment develops in the squad.

Unless Chelsea stump up ridiculous money in the next 3 DAYS (tick tock), then Chelsea are not in as strong a position as antihenry likes to believe. Torres contract does not run out in 2012, it runs out in 2013.

Dalglish would like to change Torres' mind, and the only way to do that is force him to stay, probably against his wishes, and then play him with Suarez, Gerrard and who knows maybe another surprise signing after this wake up call.

Then in the summer we can decide. Apparently he has a £50 million release clause (well done Purslow, idiot!) but it only comes into play in the summer. However, his mind may be turned if we can start showing some sexy football somewhat. No harm in trying.

19-6 is more likely than that.

Even Bolton are playing better football than you, that is how far you've fallen.
