Great player. Really could strike the ball in everyway possible and needed. The freekicks almost sum him up as a player themselves. Power but finesse, Strength but touch of class.

The way he hits the ball, all the different technique he's mastered for the passing and shooting, is it natural talent or you can get there by training like a maniac ?

A bit of both i guess, you need that natural ability to get your body shape correctly in every position to keep over the ball, and the power in your muscles - but you need that experience of trying the shot in every angle possible.

I think practice definitely makes perfect, but you need to know how to reach the goal first - there is no point practicing something if you are not doing it the right way in the first place.

There was a thread in the newbies about players you've never seen play well - Totti was still quite popular.

Totti would be in the top three of alltime club legends in any club in the world with a similar career for one club for pretty much any club in the world.

An absolutely unreal footballer. I suppose you could compare his career to Gerrard's. Both one-club-men, Gerrard managed a European Cup, Totti won a league title and a load of runner up finishes. And a World Cup...

Third highest top scorer in Serie A history.

This video is immense. Freekicks, absolute screamers with his right, and his left, perfect chips with both his right and his left, volleys with both his right and left, and an absolutely absurd collection of back heel passes. It's one of the best football compilations on YouTube, there's a point where you begin to wonder what the fuck you're even watching. And for some reason it doesn't even show that unbelievable goal against Inter in the San Siro when he went past a few players then dinked the keeper from about 25 yards.

i think he is second highest now, that video is awesome though. Totti was one of the first footballers i started following so am always surprised why he isnt more appreciated here.

I like Totti. Bit misunderstood at times I reckon. He was always a bit below the class of Baggio and Del Piero for me. Hes also done a shit load for charity over the years

I can confirm that he is indeed 2nd in the list, behind Silvio Piola. He needs a further 49 to become #1 (which probably won't happen unless he turns Messi on us all).

Loved him back in the days when I used to play PES. Awesome player on it - his shooting/finishing was spectacular. Completely forgot about him until I saw this thread - amazing to see he's still going strong at 36 years of age.

11 goals in 27 appearances - that's an impressive feat for a 36 year old.

12 assists too. Pretty good I must say.

This season is probably the best I've seen him since 06/07. At 36 he still packs an absolute rocket of a shot:

Has there ever been a better first-time passer?

Those stats are even better when you consider that he isn't striker like he used to be before in terms of positioning.
That passing video is sublime too, the guy had the vision to spot the runners but also the power/accuracy to make the ball reach them perfectly most of the time

Although I love him more for his passing and vision, I'll never get tired of this beautiful moment of pure audacity --

One of the most technically incredible players I've ever seen and it was genuinely a joy growing up and watching his entire career unfold. I'd put money on it that if this guy played in one of the 'big' sides (Roma aren't a small side or anything, but I'm talking in the mold of a United, Madrid etc over the last two decades of his playing career) over his career then more people would of regarded him as one of the greatest they've ever seen. Easily one of the best players I've ever watched in his position.

Also the greatest chip shot player I've ever seen too. The amount of incredible goals he scored from chips is mental, he was just so technically brilliant.

I thought that Batigol was more important that season. Totti was brilliant in his entire career though. In EURO 2000 and WC 2002 he was unstoppable, shame that in 2002 they were robbed by that Ecuadorian clown.

There's always something extra special about those rare players who possess a truly multi-faceted left/right peg: able to hammer, dink, ping, chip, bend and volley with consistent quality.

Rarer still those who can do this with both feet. I know it's not entirely conceivable, but I'm shocked at the lack of truly ambidextrous professional footballers playing today. I played football, like everyone else on the estate, for hours every single day growing up, and I spent a lot of time working on my weaker side. It wasn't long before I was equally comfortable with either foot, and when you see such painfully one-footed footballers like Antonio Valencia today, you'd wonder how they progressed through their developmental teenage years without improving this basic skill.

In my opinion, there's nothing more impressive than seeing a player execute a difficult pass/shot with their perceived weaker foot, but maybe the fact that there's so few footballers capable of this makes it all the more impressive.
