Typical Goals

Whilst all players score all sorts of goals - many of them routine tap-ins and others absolute wonder strikes, do you think that strikers in particular have one goal that completely sums them up as a footballer and also their careers?

For instance I think this goal from five years ago tells you exactly who Drogba is and what he is about.

I was trying to figure out what was special about his goal then I noticed he scored with the back of his head, he seems to jump quite high as well.

Henry is always known for the curled finish into the opposite corner.

Is that what he did today by any chance, or are you just saying that?

Haven't seen his goal today but the one he did against Leeds was exactly like it.

Henry?

But this is probably my favourite goal of his. Good width and finish.

Nani skinning his man on the left, cutting inside and finding the far corner.

A Forlan screamer from 30 yards....seldom low, always too high and too powerful for the keeper to reach. He's had a fair few of those in la liga to add to the one or two he had for us.

Cutting in from the left and shooting in the right corner with the inside of his foot. Doesn't do much from the other side of the pitch.

He tried to but the ball hit the defender and went closer to the other corner. Goalkeeper had already moved.

Giggs will always be remembered for that goal vs arsenal. Anyone who runs past 3-4 players i instantly think of giggs.

Beckham, well guess.

when i think of shearer, i think of headers for some reason.

Scholes smashing it when it comes out to him from a corner.

Raúl lobbing the keeper.

Obviously not all of those are lobs but nice examples there. This video seems to be from a few specific seasons and the title doesn't make sense at all.

This one is a basic finish from him.

FYI, typical goal doesn't mean the goal you are known for.

Exactly. The first two in this thread for example....Surely a typical Drogba goal would involve the use of his strength? Not a one off screamer? And a typical Hernandez goal would be a good run into an even better position for a neat finish?

Must do better.

I was thinking more along the lines of it summarizing how instinctive he is and the way he does anything in the box to score.

Drogba from a long way out picking up the ball, turning on a six pence and battering it from a long way out.

That is like him.

Though if you prefer:

Yup. Otherwise this thread would have Bergkamp's goal against Newcastle, Rivaldo's overhead kick against Valencia etc.

Fat Ronaldo could be going past the keeper when one on one. Don't understand why more players don't do that. Seems like only intelligent players do that.

Good thread idea.

Not sure I agree with the OP though. Drogba isn't known for his long range goals, he's known for his aerial ability, powerful finishing and ability to outmuscle defenders. Stunning goal, regardless.
