Missed that, thanks for posting.

Bummer on the transfer ban, but at least it is not reticence from UEFA that's the stumbling block here.

I reckon the main ace here is blocking clubs from European competitions. I don't think individual player lawsuits will be a concern, or should be at any rate. The writing ought to be on the wall for those joining city, PSG and Malaga and there is a strong case in court for league football being the bread and butter for players I think.

The real issue for me here is not UEFA, but the premier league. The lower divisions have showed real initiative by implementing the FFP for themselves as well, with even stricter regulations than UEFA. Why have the premier league not followed suit when everyone around them have? Imo, it's a bit scandalous really.

Because, quite simply, they have a product to protect. If they started clamping down on all the clubs, we'd become a less interesting league and it'd become harder to sell around Europe.

It's a bit like the Fishing industry really. The EU imposed a lot of regulations in order to preserve fish supplies in the ocean. The UK has imposed this very strictly on their own fishing industry whilst the likes of France and Spain ignore it almost completely by fishing in foreign waters and bringing in too much.

The difference? Spain and France's fishing industries are doing just fine while the UK's are on their knees.

Do the same in the Football world and we'd be up shit creek.

This is a good website for explaining everything, but I don't know if it still being updated, I hope so. Financial Fair Play

Behind the scenes you would imagine there is a lot of talking going on. Signings now count for both the 2014/15 season and 2015/16 season, (although the first year will be very easy to pass as signings of players bough in 2010 and before do not count, it is the second year it really kicks in).

The funny thing about FFP is that you can spend 100 million on players, as long as you sell them 2 years later.

Spoiler

You think City And Chelsea are good for the league? They are the only ones who would really struggle with this.

Doesn't seem very sporting to me either that the clubs coming up from the championship will have made their way abiding these rules and then have to compete with clubs who don't.

Yeah, I don't think it will be transfer sums that will nail city when the time comes. It's the wage bill I am struggling to see how they will overcome.

Even if somehow, against the odds, they manage to comply, I don't think it is necessarily a defeat for the FFP. It would be nice to see them banned and all, but if city come out of this established as a big club without large sanctions but nevertheless having to live within their means in the future, I'd say it has still accomplished a very good thing. And will have plugged the hole to allow others to do so in the future.

The main cause for concern here is what kind of revenue streams the UEFA will tolerate. If city can find new ways of pumping in money beyond the footballing related streams to keep the inequality going for the longterm, then that really is a defeat for UEFA. City are obviously banking on their incredibly dodgy summer injection being sanctioned by UEFA and it will be interesting to see what their accountants make of it.

Although it wouldn't be good for the English game, It would be funny as hell to see Chelsea fall into mid-table mediocrity and unable to buy their way out because of FFP.

They need a new stadium to compete once FFP comes in, but to sell out the new stadium you would think they will have be competitive to attract new fans. And to be competitive they need to buy players to revitalise their squad.

Come on Arsenal, take fourth!
