Update from our friends at eighteenfive blog...

"When you ask any football supporter to name the greatest managers in the UK five names almost always come up. Paisley, Stein, Clough, Shankly and Benitez. Liverpool FC have been blessed to have three of the greatest managers of all time…..and if we follow trends (Scouse Dave has covered trends in football in an earlier post) then it’s safe to assume that our next Manager will be one of the greats as well."

"Due to the expected popularity and growth of eighteenfive I have decided to put on another writer. Don't let his name fool you. Miami Red is old time Scouse. He now resides in the US but has years of home and away experience and like myself knows his onions."

"Below is a list of best odds for Champion's league 2008/2009
http://www.betbrain.com/oddsOverview...3725898/site/0
How they can Liverpool (the best team in Europe as voted by UEFA,) 6th at 15/1 is beyond belief. I believe it's some sort of conspiracy.

Let's examine the facts for a second.
Despite the myths, Liverpool have the largest SUPPORTER base in the world. Notice how I didn't use the world 'fan base'? I did this deliberately as there's two distinct groups that follow football teams. 'Fans' and 'Supporters'.

Fans are the lower of the two. They are like what Chimpanzees are to humans. They share 99.7% of the same DNA , but they completely different. Fans don't really like football you see. They follow a team for acceptance. Usually they are losers who aren't any good at anything so they follow a winning football team for acceptance and to identify themselves as winners."

"Apparently Juve and Fiorentina are planning to bid on Dossena as well which will ultimately force the price up a bit. Funny how they weren't interested in him a few days ago until Rafa made an offer.
Clubs, shouldn't be allowed to do this. They're just using Liverpool's scouts to do their dirty work. Wait till they identify a player and then steal their target.
If Taggert can threaten Real Madrid, then I don't see why there's no reason why we can't threaten those two.
Last thing we need is little Italian clubs threatening to ruin our season."

These were my favorites. First, about the inevitable sacking of Benitez by Hicks & Gillette, and who might possibly replace him.

Quote:
Who will it be you ask?

Well in my opinion, and I'm based in the US now, so I know how American’s think, it will be someone who understands the American style of sports ownership. Someone who can speak the lingo. In my opinion it could well be none other than Bruce Arena.

I know what some of you are thinking "We’ve got no chance of landing Arena, he’s well out of our league".

Second, a look back at 2007/08.

Has it really been that bad of a season?

We didn't end up with any silverware (due to refereeing decisions mostly) but looking back we achieved quite a bit this season.

The Torres signing, the 6-0 over Derby, the 8-0 over Bestikas and getting voted the number one team in Europe by UEFA.

These are some great achievements, a little quadruple if you will, arguably better than some shiny cups.
Fess up caftards, which one of you is penning this comedy gold?

It's a shame that the subtlety of the original wind-up has been lost a little bit in the more recent 'blogs'.

Still made me laugh though.

Thanks for the tip Dave. I'm down der bookies to stick me giro on us winning da champions league and Torres scoring 50+ goals next season. Rafa's record shows that we will win it again and in Ancient Rome we will win it 6 times. I bet *** already have an open top bus waiting for us.

There are so many gems on that site it so difficult to know which one to pick out. Here's one though:

Yo, scouse Dave. Who do you think is the best young
defensive prospect in the world?

Good question Jake. Many would say Manchester City have the best young defensive prospect in the world (or BYDPITW). But what's a young defender? For me a young defender is still under the age of 25 as they don't mature until they pass this age.

For me you really can't go past Skrtel. He's set the premiership alight since he joined. I really think we have something special on our hands, possibly a Beckenbauer or something of that magnitude. Rafa thinks it also.

What's BYDPITW?

The blog is bloody hilarious, it's the best comedy I've seen in months. Great wind-up as well, it's not far from the actual Liverpool fans thinking.

Manchester United

Current rating 6/10

Squad ranking among the top four:

Captain 3rd
Goalkeeping 3rd
Defence 3rd
Midfield 3rd
Forwards 4th
Overall 4th

Strengths

Luck
Ca$h
Officials, they run the referee’s association

Weaknesses

Aging squad
Aging manager
Aging keeper
Ronaldo going to Madrid
The status quo, will be nervous trying to go after the 18th.

Where they’ll look to improve

Will have more money than anyone else due to Champion’s League win and the sale of Ronaldo unfortunately. Meaning they will probably go ballistic in the transfer market, again.

Who they’re linked with

Huntelaar
Benzema
Owen
Crouch

Liverpool Football Club

Current rating 9/10

Squad ranking among the top four

Captain 1st
Goalkeeping 1st
Defence 1st
Midfield 1st
Forwards 2nd

Strengths

Goalkeeper
Defence, three world-class Centreback and new Brazilianesqe fullbacks
Midfield, four absolutely brilliant midfielders, including the best young midfield prospect in the world.
Rafa, tactical genius who has finally worked out what’s needed to win the league.
Torres, BPITW
Youth, twice FA Cup winners in a row and reserve league winners.

Weaknesses

Owners
Second striker
Winger

Where they’ll look to improve

They’ll buy a second striker/playmaker and a winger.

Who they’re linked with

Kaka
Benzema
Gareth Barry

Riveting reading!
