Wenger Wants A Bit Of Luck For Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is more motivated than ever to make sure Arsenal return stronger from what he feels was the unluckiest campaign of his reign.

Asked if last season was his unluckiest as Gunners chief, Wenger replied: "It was by far, with the decisions and injuries. At some stage you could not believe how bad it was.

"But you have to deal with that and have to use it as a platform to come back and be even stronger mentally."

Wenger told Arsenal TV Online: "We were very close, we were in the race and next year we want to show we can win it.

"It is important you fight for the championship and to win it. All the other trophies are more of a consolation than anything else.

"The team is performing well, but the target of a top-level sportsman is to always improve and I believe we can be more clinical, we can score more with the chances we create.

"I will try to achieve my best to develop the players, to fight in every game. I am more motivated than ever to achieve that.

Some new faces could well be on board by the time the Gunners play a Champions League qualifier on August 12/13, but Wenger insists team building was not just a matter of opening the cheque book.

"Of course I am in a position where I can spend the money," he said.

"But every time we have done such a great job with the young players that you are concerned 'do we kill a young player or not by bringing another player in?'

"It is a very sensitive subject which is not specially linked with money."

Arsenal were unlucky? Go fuck yourself Wenger, in some respect you were lucky your campaign lasted so long with such a weak squad.

I can somewhat sympathise with about the injuries. But as for refereeing decisions, he should take a look at the decisions that went against United.

Oh bollocks. We had our fair share of good decisions as well as bad. Arsenal and us both have fuck all to complain about.

I'm not saying we didn't have good decisions go for us. But i can certainly think of more bad decisions that went aganst us last season than good, i don't necessarily go along with decisions evening themselves out. But the main point was that Wenger shouldn't have used decisions as an excuse for not being successful.

In fairness, Wenger's only spent £2.71 and a packet of skittles on his team during this time period, where as Chelsea could've adequately funded the rebuilding of Thailand and Indonesia after the boxing day tsunami using the money spent on their squad.

Physioroom.com reports that Arsenal had 60 injuries last season, United had 53. Liverpool and Chelsea both had a lot less, and not so many long term injuries as United and Arsenal.

So in a way Wenger is correct - Arsenal did have a lot of injuries, certainly compared to Liverpool and Chelsea - they also got a few dodgy decisions from refs, notably against Liverpool in the CL - however United had just as bad injury problems and I wouldnt say we were any luckier/unluckier in terms of refeering, not in the League at least. United's squad was just far stronger.

In a perfectly just and fair world I think Arsenal would have finished 2nd in the league and been the runners up in the Champions League.
